This worked out great for our needs
I’m happy with the Via Velo Bike Chain. It’s a tough deterrent to theft. The 4-sided chain is a secure and convenient length of almost 3 foot which opens up a the use for this lock in several applications. The lock functions easily. I appreciate the 4 keys. It’s significantly more heavy duty than other bike chains I’ve used.With so much crime, if something isn’t bolted down it tends to get stolen. We’re using this to secure a package delivery box at our front gate. It’s great to stop porch pirates with a secured package delivery receptacle but what’s to stop the thieves from stealing the entire parcel delivery box. This bike chain solved that by locking down our parcel box.

Strong, bulky, durable, thief deterrent
Every lock/chain can ultimately be broken if there’s enough determination and time, and this lock is not any different. That being said, this appears to be a bulky looking, decent quality, durable, and tough chain, that is at a bare minimum a thief deterrent. Truly like others have mentioned the only “real” defense from a determined thief is an insurance plan. I would rather use this lock than put it through the “stress test,” especially since they claim to have a Bronze rating from ‘sold secure’, granted this is the lowest rating they give bike locks. I have it weighing just over 2.65 pounds. Sold secure mentions locks at this level are essentially thief deterrents, as previously mentioned, and while they are somewhat obtuse in their ratings bikeradar states this about sold secure’s bronze level “they’re not suitable for long periods, quieter areas or overnight use in public spaces,” so keep that in mind. Time will be the ultimate test of it’s durability and anti-rust properties. It does say anti-rust, not rust-proof (which is next to impossible anyways), so just keep this thing lubricated and you should be good. The protective sheath is decent at it’s job or protecting your bikes paint and possible dent (or crack if you have a carbon fiber frame). We’ll see how this holds up long-term, in an area that is prone to rusting almost anything outdoors due to proximity of ocean. Overall, it’s accurate to the description, fair value for the money. I don’t have any issues recommending this with a few caveats, the main one being that there is no lock that is ultimately thief proof (at least that I know of) so if you’re using this to secure a very high value dollar item, especially in an area known for bike theft, the best thing you can have is an insurance policy, and hope the thief left the broken lock on the ground to maybe make your insurance claim easier. Granted there are other locks (at least in the USA) that offer some type of monetary guarantee if their lock gets broken, granted I cannot vouch for ease of use or how it actually works as I’ve never had to use one yet, thankfully.

A great lock to keep ‘honest’ people HONEST!
The Via Velo Bike Chain Lock is a great way to keep ‘honest’ people honest. It is enough of a deterrent to make it troublesome for someone to steal your bike, moped, or motorcycle. The 4 supplied keys (nice!) activate a simple yet effective barrel lock and the sheathed chain will not scratch your rims or frame. The chain’s length is adequate for locking the rear wheel to the frame, although my picture shows it on the front rim of my motorbike, just to test it out. A very nice chained lock to safeguard our two-wheeled possessions.

Knowing it says Sold Secure Bronze, it’s OK.
I’d say it’s about right for a Bronze, but it’s worth having one more tedium for a thief to have to deal with.The chain itself is decently weighty without being too heavy to haul around, I sometimes even wear it on my neck when I’m transporting it to/from apartment when my basket is full.The covering is a rigid plastic with tight weave that feels like it could cause issues for a saw, though heat could probably do it in.The lock itself is a little fidgety at times, but the keyway being a little jammy could be due to fresh key grooves needing some time to wear in a little.I personally trust this lock enough to just act as one more layer of hope considering I have to park outside my apartment. 3rd floor isn’t fun to carry an e-bike every day.

Beefy!
I’m impressed with the strength of this lock. It’s being used to lock up my son’s bike at school, and unless someone has a bolt-cutter, they’re not getting through this lock. The four keys are nice, and both his mom and I have a key with us in case he has an issue. Because it’s beefy, the lock is a little heavy. You’ll need to wrap it around the frame during transport or carry it in a backpack, but I definitely feel like this is a solid, very strong lock.

Seems strong but not sure about the mesh
This chain lock seems tough enough to deter a bike thief, but the chain cover was not what I was expecting. The cover is a plasticy mesh. I thought it would be a softer material, not a crispy mesh. The ad says that the chain is rust resistant, but I worry that if the chain did rust it would go right through the mesh and stain my bike. The lock itself is rugged and the keys move smoothly in the lock. It is nice that you get four keys and if you actually lose them all, it comes with a code so you can order a new one.
