    my childhood movie
this brings me to when my Dad took us all to the drive in back in 1978 we all took our own food and we had a blast on wide screen when the car load was only under 3 bucks so now I get to watch this for free on my own DVD player

    Cute
I rented this. It’s a movie I watched when I was a kid. It’s still very cute. Enjoyed watching it again.

Feline Fun for the Whole Family
We saw this available for rental through Amazon and I instantly had to watch it again. This was a favorite of mine growing up, and have seen it dozens of times. My children had never watched it before, so it was the perfect opportunity to share with them a feel-good classic movie. There’s plenty of laughs, suspense, and action wrapped up in this little film about an extraterrestrial that crash lands on Earth. No, it’s not E.T. In fact, this movie was filmed quite a few years before that strange alien invaded the silver screens. This alien is….A cat. With a spectacular collar that allows him to speak directly to the minds of humans, levitate objects, among other things. His ship is in dire straits, broken parts and confiscated by the military. That won’t stop this cat from space from obtaining the gold he needs to fix his ship. He reveals his otherworldly nature to a trio of humans, including one played by the always darling Sandy Duncan, and they do their best to help this furry feline repair his ship and make it back to space in time to meet up with others from his cat planet. Things go astray and the ending is not what you would expect…**spoilers**…in a turn that puzzled both my children, Jake (as he is called) ends up staying on Earth. He abandons his ship to save his new human friends (and potential earth cat love interest, Lucybelle). This goes against nearly every other children’s program that has been released in the past ten/twenty years, where the non Earthling always has to make it back home. No matter what magical realm, place in time, or planet they came from, they always, always go back. I think it’s a refreshing turn that Jake cared for the people that went to such great lengths to assist him so much that he was willing to abandon his ship to bail them out of their danger.Another point in the film’s favor is nearly the complete lack of pop references. There’s a bit of a basketball game shown, but nothing otherwise that is not understandable or that dates the film other than clothes and the technology (and maybe cat space ships would have technology like that, who knows?). It’s a refreshing change of pace from movies that blast pop songs and shove commercial logos in your face every few minutes. That’s what helps make this movie more timeless, while other films are so stamped there is no way to avoid mentally dating them. There’s very little violence (a few slapstick falls) and no cursing, so it’s a clean movie as well. And why can’t they make good, clean, all ages, fun movies like this these days?

You rub my fur, I’ll rub yours
Normally I focus on horror and sci-fi movies from the 50’s and 60’s and newer “B” movies. But… I’ve wanted to see this movie for a long time. I remember seeing parts of it years ago but when I got it this year I had to watch it. After all it has two things that I love, a science fiction story… and a cat. I was not disappointed. The movie was made in 1978 and although CGI came about in the 70’s it wasn’t widely used so if you see strings when Jake is moving objects around the room, remember, the magic is in your heart not your head.I’m sure most of you know the premise. A spaceship lands on earth. The pilot is what looks like your average Abyssinian cat. The spaceship has broken down so the alien cat needs to find the proper parts to make repairs. The army captures the spaceship and moves it to a secure location. The alien cat befriends a scientist, (Ken Berry) and some of his scientist friends. They work together to get the parts needed to fix the spaceship so that “Jake” can return home. Involved in all this are the Army (full of nincompoops) A spy, and small band of mis-matched scientists. There are a plethora of stars in this movie all veterans of movies for years. Two cats play the part of Jake. The voice of Jake is done by Ronnie Schell, another veteran actor and comedian. Schell also plays the part of Sergeant Duffy. It’s a family movie, which means that it’s a children’s movie but there is enough adult humor for parents to enjoy. And by adult humor I don’t mean sexual. The cat’s expressions made me smile. I’m sure everyone who has a cat can see the same brilliant mind in their cat when compared to Jake. It just may prove that cats really are from outer space. For cat lovers it has an adorable factor that you can’t beat.

    Purrrfect Family Film
I grew up watching this great family movie. What the movie has going for it:The Story: Very original and clever. While this was not the first or last movie to make an animal talk, the way the Cat does is very original and fun. The story doesn’t bog down in details, and has just enough action in it to keep the kids interested. The Cast: The cast is mainly composed of actors that Disney used in several films through the 70s, Ken Berry, Sandy Duncan, Harry Morgan, etc…, Berry is perfectly suited as the main actor and I love Sandy Duncan! She’s one of the more under-rated actresses in the Disney Stable during this period.Interesting Note: Mclean Stevenson and Harry Morgan, both from MASH are in this movie, to my knowledge other than one episode of MASH, this is the only time they are together. This is a great movie that your family will enjoy

    So much fun
I used to watch this movie when I was a kid, whenever it came on. The story is delightfully cute with all kinds of hijinks involving various parties all coming after the cat, who is able to do cool things with alien powers. The cast is a who’s who from the `70s, and as a result, they play so well for laughs. And there’s nothing really scary or offensive to worry about, making this fun for the whole family.
