Spyder Ladies’s Trapper Hat – Cozy Quilted Fake Fur Lined Russian Ushanka Hat with Heat Ear Flap and Adjustable Chin Strap

Cute, but some room for improvement.
I selected this Spyder hat over the all fur ones I was considering. I did that for several reasons, one being that Spyder clothing I’ve found to be well made specifically for people that spend a lot of time outdoors or in sports. Their products are stylish but hold up when put through the endurance test. This hat is very cute and I love the embroidered spyder on the ear flap. That being said, I’ll break the review into pros and cons.Pros:1. My down jacket is black nylon which has a sheen to it. This hat is also black with quite a sheen to it. I wanted something that matched or at least was close. This fit the bill.2. The inside faux fur is lovely. Looks more realistic than I expected. Soft, warm and I’ve had no shedding yet. All positive points .3. The hat is washable. First thing I did was to wash it. It can be washed in cold water on delicate cycle. I learned that on Amazon’s site. I didn’t have time to run the machine, so I hand washed it. So far, so good.4. Other hats of this style have hard plastic buckles. This hat does not. Someone was really thinking here! The closure is a soft, black fabric with two snaps. Easy to hold, if carrying the hat, and comfortable to wear.Cons:1. I presumed the faux fur lined the entire hat. It does not. The crown of the hat is made of something like quilted rayon. I would strongly suggest to the manufacturer that they reconsider lining the entire hat in the faux fur. It would not only look better, but would feel far more luxurious and would also feel far warmer than the cold rayon. From a scientific standpoint, most of our body heat is lost from the crown of the head. Therefore, in a hat that someone would probably use for outside work or sports in winter, the warmer, cozier feel to the faux fur, would be preferable. Another reminder is why down is chosen for severe temperatures. It’s because the air trapped between the fine feathers acts to better insulate. Even though Spyder quilted the rayon, it will not insulate as fur would, because of the air between the fur that adds to the warmth. I also feel the rayon lining will wear out quicker than faux fur would. I hope Spyder reconsiders re-looking at the interior design of this hat and re-doing it in all fur.2. I am guessing at some of the materials ( such as my reference to rayon lining) and laundering directions because during the making of this hat, the label that is supposed to be free flowing and readable on both sides, was accidentally stitched into the lining, making only a portion of 1 side of the label readable, while preventing reading of the rest of the label. Not a huge con, and accidents do happen. But I would have liked seeing all the laundering directions and materials list, without them being stitched down into the lining.All in all, a cute hat that is warm and practical. Stylish, Warm, and High-Quality
This trapper hat is a fantastic combination of style and warmth. The interior is incredibly cozy with its soft faux fur lining, and the quilted exterior provides excellent insulation. The sheen on the outer material surprised me at first, but it adds a unique touch and still looks very flattering. Just something to keep in mind if you prefer a more matte look.The ear flaps and adjustable chin strap are practical for keeping everything snug and warm on windy days, and the overall quality feels top-notch. It’s much more stylish than most trapper hats I’ve seen, making it a perfect blend of function and fashion for winter outings.
