Great lesson for kids!
The world is in desperate need for people to live more green lives. I teach a unit on recycling and not creating too much waste in my classroom. This book is a wonderful addition to this unit. I love the story! Children really connect with the adorable animals and whatâs even better? Itâs a birthday party! Beautiful illustrations and incredibly important message.

My children and I have just enjoyed reading this story. We often talk about the importance of saving the planet, how it’s so crucial that we recycle things and be more conscious of our waste and this story is about that too but in a very child-friendly manner.The story tells of a group of friends holding a birthday party and how they do so in a way which is eco-friendly. It gives ideas on how you can cut down on waste, make a birthday not be just about things you use for the party and then throw away and gives solutions to these problems.My children enjoyed reading this as we also discussed how we could cut back on plastic and things when we next have a party. They liked seeing the solutions that the friends came up with.At the end there’s a little exercise for children to do where they can write down what items they would put in each category (plastic, glass etc) and I like this. It’s just a short, simple exercise but one which also encourages them to think about how to sort items which is very important.We enjoyed reading this and think it’s good that there’s a book about important issues about being eco-friendly but that it doesn’t feel too heavy, the story isn’t like a lecture, it’s a nice, fun story. We are giving it 4 stars (1 is missing because there were a few too many characters so my children got a little confused about who was who!)A lovely read, we want to see what these friends get up to next and how they plan something else which can be eco-friendly.

Recycling is a fun book to explain to children why it is important to recycle and reuse things to help the environment. The story follows Viggo the bear who is having a birthday party when his friends encourage him to use the 3Rs.This is a really clever way to show children that recycling can be easy and fun but I think it could have been more effective if it was more relatable for them. A forest is a perfect setting for the characters but the children can’t cut up a tree to make a plate!The illustrations are gorgeous and make it look like the characters are having a great time even with the eco friendly party. Having the polluted pages in darker colours is very effective as it makes the children think about if it’s good or not and see that the page looks a bit gloomier than the rest.This is a very good book about being eco friendly and at encourage children that helping the environment can be fun too, I just wish it was a bit more relatable for the children!
