Pease of mind.
âAccess deniedâ is something my little food thief is now learning well.I have it set on open all the time so my skittish dog knows she can eat whenever she wants, but whenever my food thieving cat comes by, it shut her out automatically!I love it, and itâs fully cat proof!Unlike the only other one on the market that shuts access off, this one my little Houdini of a cat canât break into. I love that! And the little tag it comes with fits right on her collar (which I bought for this purpose separately) and doesnât bother her at all.And when it shuts, it doesnât scare my dog away.At first I thought I got a dud since the belt wasnât delivering food despite the sound saying it was trying to, but I just put it together wrong when I cleaned it out of the box (like the directions say to before use). An easy fix. Now it works perfectly! My dog was easy to train to eat out of it too, just had to hand feed her a few bites to get her closer and closer to it and now she eats freely.Sure I can hear it, but I donât think itâs too loud, it just lets me know just how often my cat used to steal her food. No wonder even with her own automatic feeder she was still so fat. XDNow sheâs getting a healthy weight and my dogâs bowl never gets empty. (I have to mix her food 1/2 with cat food because she was under weight no matter how much dog food she had access to, kinda anorexic. She just didnât want to eat, so I can understand why when I mixed her food with the catâs to change that, the cat got more enticed, but at least my dog is healthy now. She eats the right amount, good weight and has good muscle tone now.All in all, Iâm so very pleased. I can mix a large batch once in a while instead of having to do so every time I refill my dogâs bowl, and now I just plug it in and leave it. It lasts a while too since itâs only feeding one medium sized dogâand no food thief!Really kicking myself for not buying it sooner!Itâs also very easy to set up and it looks good too. Very easy to see when I need to refill.10/10 would recommend.

Inconsistent food delivery
I bought 2 of these at the same time. I programmed them to feed the same amount of food at the exact same time every day. I very quickly realized one was losing time so every day it would dispense food a few seconds earlier and earlier. So every week or so I have to reset them. Not a huge deal. What I didn’t immediately notice is that the one that does keep time was dispensing considerably more food each serving. I put a bag of food in each and when I got back from a three day trip this weekend, one was completely empty and the other was still 1/4 full. I was very upset about this. Also in open mode, when another cat gets close, the gate closes as it should but when it starts to open again it quickly closes back up causing the waiting cat to startle not just once while it’s eating but again when it closes abruptly the second time just as the cat starts eating again. Then it takes several minutes for the gate to open and by that time the waiting cat has usually given up. This happens about 50% of the time with both units even when the other cat is no longer near the machine. And as many others have noted, the gate closing mechanism is LOUD which seems like something that should have been adjusted after people reported how much it startles their pets. It’s loud enough that it can easily be heard anywhere in my house when it opens, closed and dispenses food. I definitely had to move them far away from the bedrooms.Because I live in Canada I paid just over $500CAD per machine after shipping and duty. I don’t have much choice given my cats dietary requirements and the time I have to spend away for work but am overall very disappointed by the machines. I’m not sure why they are inconsistent but that part aside, it would seem like a no brainer if a company could adapt the advantages other dispensers have over this one such as battery backup for power outages, small microchip collar tags for cats rather than very large ones (or implanted tag readers), and quiet gate mechanisms. If they did this and figured out why the dispensing is not the same from unit to unit, they would have 100% advantage over the other food dispensers on the market. If you do buy one I’d recommend monitoring it daily to make sure it’s dispensing what it should, especially if your pet is on a diet, and don’t trust it when you go away.

Works well and solves a problem competitors don’t
This embattled unit works well, and I would buy it again, but it can be improved.First, if you feed a dog whose food shouldn’t be accessed by others, this is the ONLY game in town as of writing. This unit is sturdy enough to keep a large hungry dog out of its food hold. That is tough! It also HIDES the food when the intended animal leaves (or it can close when the prohibited animal approaches, depending on how you set it). Unlike other units that come close in functionality, its tag is on the collar, allowing use with large dogs (like our labrador retriever). With all the above requirements, this was the only unit I could purchase. Some argue it’s too loud. The unit is as loud as a photocopier releasing a single page. The door noise also lasts for about 1 sec. This doesn’t bother me much, even in a small space.I have not had to deal with customer service since my unit has been operating correctly. One issue is that it flashes as a list of codes instead of actual messages. Like “tag battery low”, “food try full”, etc. I’ve only had to search for the meanings once. They could have made those into messages. Others have complained about the tag. From what I gather, there are TWO TYPES OF TAGS. I’m guessing they used to ship with tags with embedded batteries, but my tag used a standard replaceable battery that came with the unit. But it seems the tag uses a bit of power and will have to be replaced every few months. This isn’t a dealbreaker for me. But with so many passive RFID technologies, I wonder why they use a tag that requires power.

Bought this as we have 2 healthy cats and one that needs special diet that steals food from others. Now we use RXPro for healthy cats and the third one has the chip and canât reach the feeder without closing. However, the tag with a chip is too big and our cat doesnât like it, always scratches himself and tries to get it off. I think it should have been made smaller/lighter. Also feeder doesnât have battery backup in case of power failure. Is not an issue where we live but for example in my parents house it is very common problem. Also it canât fit most suitcases, would be more practical if it came in 2 pieces for easier transport. It is very sturdy and I know maybe that was main goal but we had some issues transporting. Other than that, it is a great product and and would get 5 stars. Maybe V2.
