Excellent ultralight with great performance
Excellent value! There has been a little FUD and disparaging commentary out there in the tech press regarding the Intel integrated G7/Xe graphics. My advice is **Pay no attention** This reviewed MSI system has an Intel i7-1185G7 with integrated G7 graphics. Intel finally has an integrated graphics with really decent graphics performance. It won’t compete with high-end Nvidia and AMD discrete GPUs for gaming, but, for everything else, it is more than adequate. Specifically, I tested a number of “4K” 3840x2160p60 HDR video streams, and, the system is actually cruising, running cool and silent. A Youtube 4K 60fps test video used by some as a benchmark showed 0 (zero, zed) frame drops in 4K. Unfortunately, the MSI doesn’t have a built-in HDMI port, but, I inserted a TB3/4 USB-C => HDMI 2.1 adapter, it negotiated with the TV to 3840x2160p60 10-bit HDR, and the results from 25-30 Mbps quality 4K videos are great. And, while viewing 4K videos, the system was so cool and quiet that it could actually be used as a laptop. In fact, it even tested out with one of the few 8K 60 fps (7680x4320p60) videos available and it looked fine with less than .1% frame drops (at 4K – I don’t have an 8K monitor).Note that this is a 16GB system– I would advise anyone to get 16GB (not 8GB) to ensure that you get full use– the integrated graphics sometimes does requisition 4-5GB of the available memory.Other features about the MSI that I like are the two TB4/power USB-C ports, the almost symmetric keyboard that thankfully has no numeric keypad, the very-good not-glossy HD display, the decent keyboard, and the excellent touchpad (far better than most windows laptops – more like an Apple in fact). Overall, the system feels a lot like a MacBook Air– that is a good thing compared to most Windows laptops. Graphics performance is comparable to a previous generation laptop a family member uses that has an Nvidia 960M GPU. That system is heavier and noisier, and, when I compared graphics performance, is similar in graphics performance. In my testing, the 1185G7 has similar performance to the 960M.This laptop is an ultralight – light, compact, quiet, runs cool, has a great-feeling trackpad, and phenomenal performance for such a minimalist system. Less is more in several ways — no discrete GPU, and no numeric keypad. The Intel 1185G7 and the Apple M1 represent the next wave of integrated CPU/GPU that have more than enough CPU and GPU speed for almost all everyday uses. What’s missing from this MSI? Built-in HDMI 2.1 port, built-in wired Ethernet port, one more USB-A port. I would have sprung for a 4K display, but, unfortunately, it is difficult to find one without a discrete GPU added. So I went with the HD display. I would have appreciated 1 and 2 TB SSD options. For the price, this ultralight has amazing performance.

MSI Prestige 13 AI+ Evo – light weight with a few tradeoffs
I just received my MSI Prestige 13 AI+ a few days ago, so all of these observations are preliminary. Overall, Iâm impressed.Positives⢠Weight â 2.2 pounds is REALLY light. Iâve been travelling with a 3.1 pound machine and the difference is very noticeable.⢠Battery life â when I started it for the first time the battery was at 85%. After several hours of getting it set up the way I wanted (so lots of disk and wifi access) it was at 40%. And that was on the default power profile, there are more efficient choices.⢠Responsiveness â in daily use itâs very snappy, with strong single threaded performance. Iâll dump on the multithreaded performance in the Negatives, but for routine stuff itâs way more than just adequate.⢠Graphics performance â I havenât fired up any games yet, but this gets good scores in 3Dmark at the out-of-the-box settings:o Time Spy â 3427 index, 3210 GPUo Steel Nomad (normal, not light) â 618 indexo DirectX raytracing â 8.0 fps, which might not look impressive but (1) Iâm amazed it works at all and (2) my old laptop with an RTX 2060 only did 12.0 fps and a desktop 2070 only got 16.1 fps.⢠Wifi connection â Iâve had other laptops that take forever to connect after a cold start, this one is instantaneous.⢠Screen â high resolution OLED, once you see OLED nothing else looks as good. Brightness is pretty good too, although I havenât tried it outdoors on a sunny day yet. Itâs much more readable than I expected for 13â with scaling at 225%.⢠Construction â feels solid, nothing flexes too much.⢠Physical shutter on the webcam⢠Plenty of ports â 2 USB-C (I havenât tried anything Thunderbolty yet), 1 USB-A, HDMI, and even a micro SD card reader.⢠Intel AI Playground â a fun, free download from Intel that works really well on this machine. For example, text to image generation taking 5-10 seconds per image (although Iâm not trying anything fancy). Also, it does everything locally so thereâs no need for an Internet connection or subscription. Itâs big (Iâm at 20GB or so and havenât downloaded nearly everything), but, hey, gotta put something on that 2 TB drive.⢠Value â OLED, 32GB RAM, and a 2 TB drive with the latest gen processor for $1400 â enough said.Negatives⢠Software â the MSI Center S software is nowhere near as good as ASUS combination of My ASUS and Armory Crate. Most notably, MSI has no option to limit the maximum battery charge (to preserve battery life) or any OLED care (like pixel shifting). Also, every time I start MSI Center is makes me re-agree to two licenses, which may be because I declined the âyou can spy on meâ option. And the software update link goes to a page that doesnât work. The cherry on top of the software mess is pre-installed Norton which immediately and often pops up to nag you.o The basic BIOS setup offers almost no control. For example, by default the 32GB RAM gives up 16GB for graphics but Iâd hope thatâs adjustable. Iâve seen some hints for how to get to a more advanced BIOS panel but havenât tried them yet.⢠Multithreaded performance â the reviews of the Core Ultra 7 258V that are out there are right, 8 cores / 8 threads is a real limitation for heavy multithreaded loads. However, I think this is a good tradeoff for better battery life in this class of laptop (Iâd be REALLY disappointed in the performance if this was not an ultraportable). In short, for my typical use (Office, web, video, a little photo/video editing, light gaming) itâs perfectly fine, and Iâm willing to take the hit on heavy tasks that I donât do that much anyway.o Iâve only run 3Dmark benchmarks, but in Time Spy the CPU score was 5555 (vs. 7826 for my old Ryzen 6800H).o Not related to this machine but Iâd completely avoid any system with the 256V (the 16GB version of the chip in this laptop). The processor has the memory built in so it canât be upgraded, and the graphics memory is pooled with the main memory. So 16GB sounds decent but in use it will be less.⢠Screen â only 60 Hz, although itâs been rock steady so far. Also, it uses PWM at lower brightness so thereâs some flicker. I noticed it a lot when I first set the brightness to less than the retina searing 100%, but honestly it hasnât bothered me since.⢠Speakers â poor sound quality and low volume. Thankfully, thereâs Bluetooth and a headphone jack. All in all Iâm very pleased and would recommend the MSI Prestige 13 AI+ especially if you prioritize battery life, the screen, âroutineâ use and even some gaming over CPU intensive multithreaded tasks.

MSI keeps the bar high
This is one great looking and working laptop. Got for my daughters school work and classes and she loves it. Battery lasts longer than expected and it very light weight. She said it’s super fast and boots instantly. The large mouse pad with multitouch features are awesome. The light blue anodized edging is a great finishing touch. MSI is the go-to for all my laptops.

Custo benefÃcio ótimo, i7, SSD 1GB, 16GB, vale a pena. =]
