2 month update added
2 months later and many brushes, especially the larger ones are shedding a lot. In the beginning I was using them a lot but then not as often- but even with a lot of use, and for much longer time, my go-to brushes never shed. So I updated my rating to reflect my change in experience and opinion since I no longer feel they’re worth it———————————————-Original Review May 2022:This is a good valued set- nice quality, especially for the cost and quantity. They’re durable but also soft enough and do nice for application and blending. They also look nice. I’llm happy with them and will continue to keep them as part of the brushes that I use

Nice Set
Michael Marcus Essential Full Size Makeup Brush Set – 7 Piece KitThis set includeseyeshadow brush, smudge brush, blush brush, powder brush, eye contour brush, eye detail brushmascara brush. These handles are a standard 5 inches long and they are perfect for travel. They are very lightweight but really sturdy since they are made from aluminum. Be sure to wash these in cold water and gentle soap before using them. I usually reshape the bristles and lay them flat to dry. Don’t dry them standing up because that will cause the glue to fail. These didn’t shed at all. These work very well and it is a good assortment. I have narrowed it down to my favorite 3 for eye makeup (the small loosely packed shade brush is awesome for crease blending) and two for contouring and foundation. I can achieve a flawless look by only using 6 brushes but I can see that I will be playing with these brushes for a long time. This set is essentIals only, but I would have changed out the mascara brush for another brush for eyeliner.

Maybe can be used as a back-up set to throw in your purse
I wasnât too fond of these brushes. They seemed to be on the cheaper side. The brush bristles were okay, but I felt the aluminum like handles were flimsy and the quality was not too good. I do stash them in my purse from time to time and if they fall out or go missing, I will not be frantically looking to find them. The overall stand out for me of this brush set, is the spooly tool.
Just A Narwhal –
Nice set of brushes for collection
It should be noted, if youâre vegan, or wonât use animal products or by-products, that these brushes (except the spoolie) are animal hair, namely, sable, goat, and squirrel.3 of the eyeshadow brushes are sable and 1 is squirrel, and they do feel very soft on your skin. The powder brush and blush brush are goat hair. I mostly have used the four eyeshadow brushes, and they are great for their various purposes – i like to apply a lighter colour with one of the 2 larger eye brushes, and apply deeper colours into the crease, with the eye detail brushes. They work very well for this. They have aluminum handles, so theyâre light, and Iâve experienced no shedding of bristles, indicating that the ferrules are tightly crimped.Iâm happy with this set, containing everything i need, as i mainly concentrate on eye make up anyway, although i have tried the blush brush, but itâs smaller than the powder brush, which I prefer to use the to apply blush, as that covers a nice amount of my plump cheeks. The blush brush is smaller than i normally like.Still, itâs a good set of brushes, if youâre ok using animal hair.
Lover of All Things Beauty –
Not great & lying about type of hair used. Low quality natural hair. Rough, scratchy
At the time I ordered these, they were $49.99. I now see at the time of writing this review theyâre $24.99. For $24.99, I wouldnât even really recommend these, but definitely not for $49.99! Overall, this set is okay. But, theyâre pretty rough and scratchy. Itâs fine if youâre wanting to get into natural haired brushes for the first time and donât want to spend a lot. They will kind of give you an idea of how natural haired brushes apply product. But, they definitely arenât going to give you the same experience and feel that the better made natural haired brushes will give you (like Sonia G, Wayne Goss, Rephr). Honestly, even Morphe natural hair brushes are better than these. If you want cheaper natural haired brushes that will perform pretty well, you can get some at Morphe. Those can be a little scratchy and shed more than Iâd like. But, they give you a much better idea of how natural hair brushes apply product than these do. Plus, I find as long as I make sure to put a brush guard or tissue around them while drying, they donât splay out. So, Iâd recommend starting off with Morphe natural haired brushes if you want to try natural hair for a more affordable price (just make sure to use one of those netted brush guards or take a piece of tissue or a play of toilet paper and roll it around the brush hairs after washing while they dry to keep the hairs from splaying. I donât need to do it with my more expensive ones but do with Morphe ones). If youâre willing to spend a little more, I would recommend trying Rephr brushes and doing their concept store (anyone can sign up for it and you get the products half off and just have to give an honest review after you try them). The Rephr brushes are great brushes that will really give you an intro into natural haired brushes. If you like them, you can continue getting those or move on to more expensive ones. I just wouldnât really recommend this set given the quality of them and the lies about the hair used and the overall quality of them. Theyâre rough and scratchy and started shedding pretty bad right away. They definitely wouldnât last long with regular use, but theyâre so scratchy I donât even want to use them regularly. This comes with 7 brushes. 6 have NATURAL hair and 1 is SYNTHETIC (spoolie brush). They say, âOur products are ethically sourced and have never been tested on animals.âThey have aluminum silver handles and nickel ferrules. On the handles, the brand name is on one side and the name of the brush is on the other. The brushes are EXTREMELY lightweight. With aluminum handles, theyâre kind of noisy ð Like when 2 brushes bump together you can hear the cling of them. Not a big deal, just wanted to mention it.I have a lot of both synthetic and natural hair brushes. I prefer natural hair brushes when using powders, especially when doing eyeshadow looks. Thereâs synthetic ones that work just as well. But when I want that perfect blend, I usually reach for my natural hair brushes. Natural haired brushes are nice because when pressure is applied, they spread out instead of clinging together making them ideal for blending products seamlessly and creating a smooth, even, non-patchy finish. I have high end natural hair brushes, mid end (like $14-20/brush), and cheaper (like Morphe).Hereâs the thingâ¦It says the âPowderâ and âBlushâ brush are goat hair. I didnât expect these to be the best quality because the hairs are black, which means theyâve been dyed. Thereâs are 2 main levels of dye commonly used on goat hair brushes. One gives a soft color (like seen in some Sonia G brushes that are a soft brown or tea color), which gives a soft color thatâs more like a stain than traditional dye. Itâs gentler and does change the hair fiber structure, but it doesnât damage the hairs as much as black chemical dye. The second type of dye is much more common and less expensive and what I suspect was used for these brushes. Black dyed brushes are usually used make lower quality hairs look uniform and will give the fibers of the hair a glossy coating (notice how shiny the hairs are in my photos). As a result, these black dyed fibers tend to pick up less powder and are rougher. Dying the hair black also tends to dry out the fibers. The product page says the âEye Contour Brushâ is 100% squirrel. I do NOT believe that at all. Squirrel hair brushes are well known as the softest of all natural bristles. Theyâre difficult and more expensive to get, making the brushes more expensive. The âEye Contour Brushâ hairs are exactly the same as the hairs on the âPowderâ and âBlushâ brushes – black, kind of scratchy, shiny. Iâm guessing theyâre goat hair dyed black just like the powder and blush brush. The product page says the âSmudge,â âEyeshadow,â and âEye Detail Brushâ are all sable hair. Again, I do NOT believe that at all. Sable hair is the most expensive animal hair type. I donât for a second believe that a $24.99 (at the time of writing this review) 7 piece brush set is using the MOST expensive animal hair type on 3 of the brushes and another more expensive animal hair type on 1 of the brushes. Plus, they donât feel like sable hair at all. My guess is theyâre pony hair. Pony hairs are one of the most widely used. Theyâre affordable and easily obtained. Theyâre soft and have a bouncy texture to them. These 3 brushes definitely feel like pony hair to me.So, theyâre okay brushes. Theyâre just not great. The 3 black haired brushes, the product page says they are goat hair but the Michael Marcus website says they are goat and pony hair. They arenât very soft. Theyâre not so rough and scratchy where they canât be used because itâs uncomfortable. But, they are a little rough and scratchy. They also started to shed pretty quickly.SPECIFIC DETAILS OF THE SHAPES OF THE BRUSHES:Powder Brush – Itâs not one of the wide, rounded kind of fluffy powder brush. It is pinched, but still decent size.Blush Brush – This is also pinched. Itâs basically a smaller version of the powder brush.Eye Contour Brush – It said that it has a slanted tip for ease of use. To me, I wouldnât use this for blending. Itâs huge. It reminds me more of a concealer type brush. I have really small, really hooded eyes, so someone else with more eye space might not find this so big. But, to me, itâs way too big. But doesnât work for concealer for me. Itâs way too scratchy and uncomfortable and doesnât blend concealer smoothly.Smudge Brush – This isnât exactly the typical âsmudgeâ brush. Itâs what I would call a small pencil brush. It works for smudging shadow on the lower lash line and upper lash line. It also works to apply color to the outer and inner corner.Eyeshadow Brush – This is a medium sized kind of flat shaded brush. It works well to pack color onEye Detail Brush – This is basically a smaller version of the âEyeshadow Brush.â You can use this to be more detailed, smudge eyeshadow on the lower lash line, etc.Mascara Brush – SYNTHETIC. This is a typical spoolie brush.
