BEST camera mounting system for DSLR cameras!
SOLID, well-designed, weâll-built and works awesome for the DSLR sized camera. I did some extensive research to find the most efficient way to confidently mount my Panasonic GH5 camera to my tripods, gimbal, and slider head. This is IT. I purchased and retuned two Arca Swiss type systems that were absolutely terrible and then I found this awesome Manfrotto 394 RC4 system. Literally, I felt like my camera could have easily fallen the ground with an Arca Swiss designed system but the Manfrotto 394 RC4 allows you to mount your camera quickly and with COMPLETE confidence. I bought 3 of these systems and have been using them for about two months. After about 15 shoots I am extremely happy I finally found a good mounting system. Every time I mount my cameras I am so happy I finally found a system I can be confident and efficient with. The system is so strong it may even work for some larger camcorder sized cameras. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

Not as Small as it Seems
So, after getting the RC2, I wanted something smaller (really more flat) that could mount easily on my Panosaurus panoramic head. I saw the RC4 and thought that would do the trick. From the pictures (I only looked at those on Amazon) it seemed to have similar dimensions as the RC2, but was low-profile with the locking mechanism in-line with the unit. But, this thing is huge compared to the RC2. Sure, its flat, low-profile, and a bit shorter than the RC2, but it is just about twice as wide and twice as long.Despite its size though, so far it seems to be working well. I’ve no problems with the mechanism. You push in the “button,” or “catch” and pull back the lever, while keeping a good grip on your precious hardware, to release the plate. I must admit, my hands are not small and pretty strong.Build quality is also excellent. It is a solid product and holds my Pentax K-x (with either 18-55mm or 50-300mm kit lenses attached) pretty well. So, right now, I’m using the RC2s to connect my Ball head and Pano head to the tripod and the RC4s to connect the camera to the heads. I may, when I save some cash, switch entirely to RC4.It’s a five-star product in my book even though it did not meet my expectations on size (that’s all my fault for not doing enough research). When I get an oppotunity I’ll take some pics of the two plates and post them.

Great time savers for HDSLR shooters
First the negatives: the connector system is probably overpriced by 15-20% and they don’t sell the base plates separately (at least I haven’t been able to find them). Also, the release latch can get a little stiff…but I’m buying more anyway.Mainly because the connector is ridiculously secure and a few of these babies can save you a tremendous amount of time on set moving from rig to rig. The base plate itself is large enough – it is slightly wider than the z-depth of a 5D and about half as wide- that I’d even trust it on a small to mid sized cinema camera like the FS100 or C100. The construction is very good. You get what you pay for.

Solid, secure and easy to use with different equipment
It’s hard to tell form the product view, but this clamp is essentially two pieces – one base station and one clamp. The clamp clamps into the base station. You can buy the base station separately. By having multiple base stations I can quickly move the camera to wherever I need it. For example, I ended up putting the master plate on the GH5, and then a few of the base plates on my tripod, my slider, my monopod, my cage and on a gorilla pod. This easy interchangeability and wide application makes it easy for me to get things done a bit faster as I am more often than not a one man crew.In terms of relaibility, I don’t ever feel the camera is in danger of coming loose. There is a reassuring clicking sound when the camera is in place properly and the clamp trigger snaps back, giving you a tactile and visual indicator that all is well. If you find that the clamp doesn’t work, it probably means you moved it into the locked position without putting your clamp in first.I like this clamp quite a bit and I feel that it’s well worth the money.

Attached to my Manfrotto fluid head 100% of the time! Super sturdy!
I was faced with the problem of my tripod head not supporting my Manfrotto quick release arca Swiss system, so I needed something to raise it up higher (so the rubber and locking mechanism doesnât get in the way) but offer a stable base for my heavy gear. This does the job very well! Thanks to one of the reviewers for recommending this method of stacking plates, because it makes my vision of my workflow feasible! You wonât go wrong with this plate by itself, or with other plates stacked on top of this one!

Tight Fit, Quick Release
I have chosen this as my quick release system. I have purchased several because they are so excellent. I have the mounts on my camera bodies and big lenses at all times, and they live on my tripods and glidecam. They attach tightly so there is no vibration or wiggling, and it always attaches in the same spot so glidecams won’t need to be rebalanced, just snap the camera onto the glidecam and GO! They also have a little catch that must be pressed down before it will fully release, so you know your camera will never get bumped off the rig until you are trying to remove it. Excellent construction, hard metal. Can mount different size screws so it would work with different type of tripods and cameras. Great purchase, I will have these for life and will continue to use them with all cameras and rigs moving forward.

Fits flat on larger Plates and great adapter for the 323
I got the Manfrotto 393 to help solve a problem I had. Manfrotto makes the 323 Quick Release plate but they can not sit properly on Heavier flat Tripod/Mono Pod Plates. The 323 has secondary release to prevent accidental releases, which gives me a sense of security. To fix this problem Manfrotto 393 sits perfectly and flat onto large flat release plates. This larger cousin of the 323 does not have a secondary release but is super firm in place and the user really has to pull on the release arm. The 323 fits snug on the opposite side of the 393. Unlike the 323 the 393 has Manfrotto markings all over so you never have to doubt if this is a Manfrotto item. Large, well built item in combo makes for an great team.
