I really like the ease of peeling potatoes and carrotsâespecially medium to large ones. It appears to me that peeling small potatoes or carrots could present the possibility of cuts on my hands from the very sharp blade. At this point, I havenât used it enough to know if this could be a problem.

I am addicted to acquiring random kitchen gadgets, so, naturally I was intrigued by this carrot sharpener. It really does look like a giant pencil sharpener â I wish I had a pencil sharpener so I could take a photo of them side-by-side. I was already prepared with whole carrots when the sharpener was delivered. First, the skin had to be removed and I fully expected to go running to my regular peeler, but I was determined to give the peeler end of this device a fair chance. To my great surprise, the blade was very sharp, and it worked quite well, and I found it to be easy to hold. Moving on, I inserted the carrot and twisted. It literally was like sharpening a pencil. Simple and not a lot of effort was involved. I wondered if the strips of carrot would be endless, but instead they just broke off after several turns, just enough to create a rosette. At first, I was breaking off the skinny bit at the tip, but then decided to just leave it, and you can see the results in the photo. At that point, there was just a nub sticking out of the sharpener and I couldnât turn it anymore. To me, itâs not a big deal. My grandson loves to eat the sweet core of a carrot and I can save the little leftover pieces for soup.Besides being pretty when the carrot strips are rolled into rosettes, the thin strips taste good are also easy to chew. When I mixed them into a hot dish, they immediately softened. I havenât tried it with anything besides a carrot, so I donât know if results will be similar. At this point, Iâm happy to have a new gadget that will actually get used, if only for carrots! Itâd be a cute little gift for your gadget loving friends.

I love freshly chopped carrots, but I’ve been developing hand pain from the effort required to chop. I’ve tried many choppers and knives to chop my carrots, with little to no success. So happy I discovered this product!Pros:- Unlike many of the choppers on the market, which either break or fail to chop carrots, this one actually works!- SO much easier than chopping carrots yourself.- Very easy and fast to use. Just as quick to peel and spiral carrots as they show in the video.- Not sure if you’re supposed to put it in the dishwasher, but I did, and it was fine. But I’ll probably hand wash in the future to keep the blade from dulling.- Cute design. Looks just like the pencil sharpeners I used in grade school.- The spirals come out fancy looking like a flower! Easy way to make a meal look elevated and fun.Cons:- I haven’t figured out how to spiral the top end of the carrot. Perhaps using a narrow fork would work. I tried a knife and a mini skewer and both of those just sliced through the inside of the carrot, rather than helping me turn it. If your carrot came with a stem, you probably want to leave that on to hold as a grip.- Doesn’t work on baby carrots.- Blades are sharp, so you have to be careful not to cut yourself.

Usable gag gift
This is, obviously, silly. But, I will actually use it in my kitchen.The peeler works well, though the “handle” isn’t the most comfortable. The sharpener makes quite reasonable carrot slices (or, rather, one big slice). Doing one carrot for a salad is great, and the result has a much more interesting mouth feel than my usual trick of using a carrot peeler. Doing more than one carrot is going to result in a very tired wrist.Overall, this is Secret Santa worthy, and even kitchen drawer worthy.
