    Stunning update
I’ve had a nest for at least 8 years and have gone through all the newer models. This one is definitely a big step above the others. First it uses the google home app. So say goodbye to your old nest app. It sits away from the wall a bit more, kind of like a mushroom. This comes with a wall plate and additional sensor (we put ours in the bedroom to keep it comfortable during the night). The screen is huge. The bronze color is stunning and it’s very reflective and mirrored. It seems to almost have a 3D look to the screen. It definitely has depth when looking directly at the screen. Set up only took 20 minutes. You can also choose between four home screens. It doesn’t keep the memory from an older nest thermostat, so it has to re-learn your home, system and awake routine, unless you manually set it up. Overall it works as described. Visually it is stunning and a focal point when you walk down our stairs. I’m happy with this upgraded “wall jewelry”.

    Just what we all need!
Do you ever get that feeling after being worked up by a jolt due to thinking something terrible that might happened in a dream or something, that ripped you from slumber?! Then, you realize it was not real and that relief rushes over you, and (once your heart rate comes back down) you have that nice calm soften feeling that allows you to fall back into the bosom of sweet slumber. That is what it is like having these babies keeping track of my HVAC now! They are always working great, and it’s relaxing knowing that 1. They are working great. 2. They look great. 3. They will tell me if something pops up that’s not normal. 4. I can track them from literally anywhere in the world! And lastly, that they are slowly helping, ever so slightly, lowering my bill, not by a bunch, but having those little tweaks that it does that is somehow doing it!I love these things! I have had them in my last two house, and am glad every time I get, or have got them installed!

Terrible – won’t learn correctly or stay on (Google Home is also a terrible interface)
Bought this the day it came out excited for a Gen 4 Nest to put in a new build house. Set up seemed super easy but was too good to be true, seems it didn’t “learn” properly and it stopped working correctly within 36 hours (Would read “76 cooling to 72” but the HVAC system was not actually running, just the fan). It’s summer in Texas and this thermostat just does not cut it. Luckily, the house is sealed up pretty well and the insulation is brand-new or we’d sweat to death.Suffered through this for a couple days thinking it was still learning and/or updating software in the background but finally gave up, deleted everything, and started over with full setup process. Seemed to work but only for a day or so. Suffered for a few more days, hoping it would be learning or figure itself out, to no avail. Deleted everything, re-did setup, again. Worked for a couple days and then didn’t, again. It also forces you to setup and interface with this thermostat through Google Home which is absolutely awful compared with the old Nest app.HVAC tech came out and said NESTs were over 50% of his calls, the unit wasn’t properly telling the fan or cooling system what to do. HVAC system is a brand new 16-seer Goodman system that is super simple, no variable speed fans or equipment like that; just a solid, simple system. So it was not the HVAC equipment’s fault.Since we had to wait to close on the house and then went through a couple weeks and cycles of the setup process we are outside of the return window now, so that’s $400 down the drains (bought the extra sensors too, for a total of four, and only two would stay registered/recognized).Will never buy a Nest again.

    Beautiful design with some flaws.
My 4th Gen Nest was delivered yesterday in silver, upgraded from 3rd Gen Nest.A few first impressions:It’s a beautiful device, and the mushroom-style design gives the impression that the thermostat is floating. The screen could be a bit brighter. It’s often hard to see smaller and shaded graphical elements. I also preferred the 3rd gen display turning blue or red when the cooling or heating was active. But I also get Google is going for a more subtle visual style. The Farsight clock is very nice and useful, as I walk by it constantly during the day.The Google Home app is dramatically worse than the Nest app. It’s fidgety and just barely intuitive with a flat and dull UI. There’s also no way to access it on MacOS.Matter support for the thermostat is terrific, but there’s no support for the sensors. That’s a miss. I have Starling, so I’ll get support in a future update, but it’s pretty frustrating that they left this out.Overall, a nice but slightly flawed upgrade.

    Gorgeous design
Who knew that a thermostat could actually be something you’re proud to have on your wall? I recently purchased a new home, and opted for the polished gold for each of my zones. This is my first Google/ Nest thermostat purchase, and I now get the hype. The simplicity of being able to control temps via the Google Home App is awesome – and love having established heating/ cooling schedules which make the most sense for our family, plus having visibility into our energy consumption and Nest Renew for energy savings is brilliant. But the real draw here is the design – if you’re even considering purchasing one of these, just do it – it’s absolutely gorgeous and unlike anything else on the market.

  7. Love it

    Great
The installation was at times confusing when trying to connect the wires. Mostly due to my husband not wanting to follow the directions but also when trying to figure out what type of ac fixture we had. The application online did provide a lot of guidance when redoing the setup calmly. The WiFi connection is super easy to do. The temperature control was easy due to using the app but when changing it on the item itself is fairly easy as well. Its durability has been great since it’s always hot where I live. Although it was a bit pricey compared to other models, I would look more into the differences but I couldn’t really see what they were.

The Next Gen 4 Thermostat is a fantastic addition to my smart home setup! It’s incredibly easy to install and use, with a sleek design that looks great on the wall. The intuitive controls and app connectivity make adjusting the temperature effortless, even when I’m away from home. The energy-saving features have already made a noticeable difference on my energy bills. I also love the detailed reports and insights on energy usage. Highly recommend this for anyone looking to upgrade their home’s climate control system!
