Typical cat tree with thin covering materials. But it’s too tall for our needs.
Wow, this cat tree is T-A-L-L! I suppose I kind of knew that when I ordered it, but maybe I just didn’t quite realize *how* tall it was, or what that would mean for the area where I intended to put it. This tower was meant to replace our most recent cat tree. My cats have had a few trees like this, but they only seem to last a year or two before they are too wobbly and/or threadbare and need to be replaced. So this tower was intended for a big window area, but honestly, it’s just too big for that space. It nearly reaches the ceiling! I have a couple of problems with this. First is stability. This thing has a small footprint on the floor. Between that and its great height, it is somewhat unsteady. The seller does provide a way to anchor it to the wall, and this is the first time I have ever actually planned to use a wall anchor. I haven’t done it yet because I am still trying to figure out how to make it a temporary thing…which leads me to the next reason the height of this tower is problematic: it’s hard to clean. I use a wheelchair, and it’s impossible for me to reach the top of this thing. With other trees, I would just pull them over so the top was accessible for vacuuming or brushing away the cat hair that inevitably accumulated. This guy is just too tall for that, and anchoring it to the wall would make that impossible. I’m sure I can get some help occasionally, but I’d rather take care of this myself.Another issue with this tree is that it isn’t ‘stepped’ or terraced, so there’s no easy access to the upper half of it from the bottom half. I have some cat steps and other, smaller trees and things that I can keep near this tree, so my cats can use these things to jump up to the top half of this tower, but it seems like a pretty big flaw in the overall design to me. And lastly, the quality of this tree is just okay. It was easy to assemble, and it gets points for that, but the materials used are all quite thin and cheap-feeling. I mean, I get it: it IS cheap, as in ‘inexpensive’, so I wasn’t expecting more, necessarily…I’m just pointing out that the quality is about what you’d expect, and not better. That’s okay, but it’s also good to know.Honestly, I am considering taking this down and buying something a little shorter, or maybe just moving this to our basement. I won’t deduct points for its height because it is clearly listed, and it’s my own fault for ordering it anyway. But you might want to really consider and then reconsider whether or not you want a cat tree this tall.I almost forgot to mention an equally important consideration: my cats love this tree! Of course, they don’t have to clean it (would that it WERE!), but they definitely enjoy running up and jumping onto it, and they really love those top two perches. They don’t use that hanging basket at all yet, and they do seem to like the hidey boxes, but really, it’s all about those top perches. They will miss this thing if I do take it down, that’s for sure! But don’t cry for them just yet. They’ll have another one in a matter of days. It’ll just be much shorter. 😉

Tall cat tree, great price, but not perfect
The cat tree came well packaged, instructions were easy to follow and easy to assemble. If you have built cat trees before, there is nothing new here.Although there are more than a few scratching post areas I find that the twine they use to be thinner and probably won’t last long with a cat that has powerful claws. Also, the amount of twine is a lot less than other cat trees I have had.What they call the rotunda, I found to be smaller than other cat trees I have. At first, I did not notice this detail, but after building it and looking at the product pictures I can see that they do show that part of the platform covers 1+ inch of the rotunda which I thought was odd and not sure what impact that with have for the comfort of my cats. It looks like they reused parts from another cat tree set and did not bother making it longer to avoid having the platform hand over part of it.I am not sure why, but what I found interesting was that this cat tree is a bit wobbly, and long term I can see it moving when my cat plays and/or jumps off it. I get that not all people can secure it, I don’t always secure all my cat trees either, but depending on your cats and environment I would at least take it into consideration for this one.Overall I do like this cat tree, it has variety, and hope my cats continue to like it as well.
