Definitely use big sized kibble. Otherwise it all comes pouring out. He still hasnât figured out how to push the button, but hopefully heâll get there. All the little doors fill up, so he is fairly rewarded. He scratches at it, but it seems durable enough to handle that. Function well, size is good for my small Corgi, it is going to be a pill to wash not easy, it is noisy so ppl wouldnât sleep though it.

Another thing that I ordered and then wondered if it was the right thing. I stared for a long time at this sitting on my kitchen counter and finally thought What the heck, I’ll give it a try. I put Louie’s (dry) food in the center hopper and pushed the lid down several times until all the food went into the little compartments. I put the feeder down on the floor and lifted up one hatch so Louie could see his food in there. Then he lifted the hatch with his nose, ate the food in the compartment, paused, and then lifted the hatch next to it! I was thrilled! After he ate that portion, he went on to the next and the next…Well I was pleased and kind of surprised. I’ve always thought Louie was a smart little dog, but this surprised me a little. For the next few days I let him eat that way.After about a week, I filled the hopper, gave it one push, and put it on the floor. Louie did the rounds and was probably feeling cheated until I gave the lid another push. We repeated that until the food was gone. The following night I did that again and didn’t push on the lid. After his first round he looked at me and I put his paw on the lid and gave a push. The next time he emptied all the compartments, I told him to push down on the top. It didn’t take long until he tried it. And that was all it took.A few days later I was on the phone telling a friend about the feeder, and said I was going to take a video. I hung up and took the video (which should be above) with a little narration for my friend. I texted the video to her and called her back. She was amazed to hear how quickly he had caught on.The way I happened across this feeder: I was looking for something to help keep Louie’s nails from getting too long. I expected to find Dremels and grinders, and I did…but this feeder appeared as well. It turns out that the description says something about helping keep dogs’ nails from getting too long (at least on their front feet). The lid on the hopper is gravelly, and there were a number of additional sand-paper-ish things to stick on the lid. All in all, this is a great feeder and you may be surprised at your dog’s intelligence. If you have a border collie, s/he will probably show YOU how it works.

Useful for smaller dogs! Not idea for large dogs
This was pretty easy for my 30lb dog to figure out and she’s willing to push on the top in exchange for treats but it’s going to take quite a while to get her nails filed down from this puzzle toy alone. If you’re looking for something to use as a first step to get your dog used to scratch boards this might be a great option for you!Pros:1. Good as a slow feeder or puzzle toy, and if you don’t care about the scratch board function, then you can just leave the scratch pads off of it.2. Comes with replacement scratch pads and a replacement if one of the covers for the food dispenser areas gets chewed up! I included a photo of everything that came in the package.3. This feels pretty sturdy and while I definitely wouldn’t leave it with my dog unattended, I don’t think it’ll be likely to break anytime soon.Con:1. Doesn’t work for my larger dog (~70lbs). He’s able to smack his paw down on one side or the other of the scratch pad and it pops the cover off, giving him access to all the food inside. (I included a picture of this issue, it pops the cover up a bit and then he can just easily nose the cover aside.)

Three days and already done.
Itâs only been a week I have had this product. My doggo figured it out right away on his own by using his nose. I got this to help with his toenails. Itâs a little frustrating. I am trying to teach him to use it with his feet but so far he has no interest and just pushes the center with his nose. Unfortunately the concept is more for the humans not for the dogs. Itâs also kinda pricey for what youâre getting. It is a good size though and easy to clean.

My dogs love this toy and it seems to be well made. We’ve only had it for a few weeks but it’s still in one piece. That’s saying a lot as our puppies are quite rough. They only get to play with it now and then ’cause it uses a lot of training treats to keep them busy for 10 to 15 minutes. If they made one what made the dogs work a bit harder for the treats we’d buy it!

My dog loves these type of puzzles and is really good at them. He has several. Although we both like this one, there are a couple of issues. First, the non slip pad given, although keeps it from moving side to side, it doesn’t stop it from lifting up and moving when the dog lifts the tabs to get the food. Lastly, I have used a few different sizes and quantities of food, they do sometimes can jam and stop it from coming all the way back up. Just something to keep an eye on.

I got this puzzle to slow down my pup while heâs eating and to help file his nails. He is very sensitive about having his paw touched. The puzzle itself is great. It took him some time to figure out how to make it work. Now that he does know how it works. Heâs much quicker at using it. However, it does still require him to be quite active, moving around to all of the ports. It does not actually help file down his nails. I would love if there was a way to increase the difficulty or to slow down how much food is released into each compartment in order to extend feed time even more.
