Great for camping or late night yard work
Sometimes you just need an overhead light.Weâve used this for late night yard work, camping, auto repairs, and even in the house when the power went out. Adds tremendously to the quality of our lives in a pinch. Light with generous charge power.
This camp light features a tripod support that folds into the light’s body. Thr tripod opens and locks in place with a dial on the bottom of the unit. The tripod span is about 18 inches when open. That’s a rather large footprint for a tent but the unit can sit on its canister shaped body when on a level surface, even with the light portion extended. The legs, though, prevent the light from tipping, particularly if the ground is uneven.The on-off switch is on the lamp head. Pressing it quickly cycles you through the light brightness and emergency strobe modes.You can extend the light head by pulling the head up. I grab the light stem as soon as enough is exposed to not put too much stress on the light. It takes a bit of a pull to get it moving. I don’t know that the lamp head would break but don’t want risk it.The lamp head swivels from projecting a decent enough light for reading to an approximately 45 degree upwards tilt.There is a standard and a USB c port for power in and out. Because the light includes a fairly large capacity battery for such units, it takes a couple hours to fully charge but then you’re good for a night of light or a couple cell phone or other devices charges. The unit comes with a charging cord.This light has a tough metal body. It does not come with a protective sleeve to prevent scratches but I have one around I can use.My unit came with a bleb of some sort on the body trim which should have been caught in the inspection process, I would think.It’s a bit heavy if every pound counts in your backpack, but if you’ve got a vehicle, are out in a boat, or in a home with the power out, this great to have. It does throw off more warmth than I expected but if the weather is cool, that’s a plus, especially in a zipped up tent.

Great portable lantern, but gets really hot
The first thing I noticed about this lantern is that it is heavy! This is not a lantern for backpacking, but one for car camping. The nice thing about it being heavy is that it has a long battery life. We’ve been using it here and there, and it is still on its original charge. We have not used the lantern as a device charger, but it is capable of doing that.It provides a good amount of light, enough to cover a 6 foot picnic table or folding table. It extends to about 3 feet high off the table, and is stable enough with the built-in tripod that it won’t fall over under normal use. The light can also be aimed, so if you need to point the light at something, that is incredibly easy to do. Opening and closing the lantern is easy, and the tripod lock (a turn knob on the bottom of the lantern) has held up just fine. The locking knob seems loose. I keep expecting it to fall over, but it hasn’t yet.The only thing preventing this lantern from getting five stars is that it gets really hot. It’s just the actual lantern part at the top that gets hot. Now, I know that in order to get a really bright LED you are going to produce some heat. But I would venture to say that the manufacturer here overdid the light production given the size of the lantern. It’s just too hot. If you plan on using this with adults and older children as a table lantern, you’ll have absolutely no issues. If you have younger children who will want to play with the light, touch it, and knock it over, the lamp is hot enough to be dangerous. I would not recommend using this inside a tent. I haven’t measured the temperature – maybe it would be safe. But I would be uncomfortable in the situation that the lamp were to rest against the tent material.Overall, I recommend this for outdoor use on a table. It is bright, long lasting, and stable. I would not recommend it for indoor use or for families with small children because it is too hot.

Versatile light
I don’t know how I lived without a camping light like this. I have several now. The different styles have pros and cons. This one is not as bright as some of my other torch lights that have multiple lights that fold down and face several directions at once. However, this one is lighter because it has fewer parts, and still very bright. The tripod base is also more delicate and better on flatter, smoother surfaces, than some of the other torch lights. The price point on this torch light also reflects that it has fewer features, making it more affordable. This is one I would choose over others if I was expecting to take the light further distances.
