By a âsmart feederâ, itâs a feeder that works with home automation. Thatâs it. Itâs not really smart in any other way. It doesnât have extra sensors or anything. It just dispenses food.Also, thankfully I didnât need it, but the âchild lockâ seems basically useless since it doesnât keep you from removing the lid.Minus 1-star for no power adapter. Iâm sure theyâd feed me some line about the environment and âmost people already have oneâ, but it obviously needs its own as itâs a 24/7 device. Nobody is going to unplug their pet feeder every time they need to charge their phone or whatever, so stop being cheap and include the entire product you are claiming to sell, especially at this price point.Edit: Took a couple months of use, but my dog did eventually figure out how to get the lid off of this. The bowl section is removable, so I put it high up on a bookshelf and now it just drops the food off the edge onto the floor. That said, Iâm just using it for some treats here and there. If I wanted to dispense his actual meals and continue to use the bowl, Iâd probably have to build some housing to go around it, which would be a nontrivial amount of work.

I was able to pair this with my smartthings hub directly and use it. The QR code on the unit didn’t work right, but I was able to find it in the smartthings app and add manually. It works well and for the price it’s a good value. The food storage area is a bit smaller than other feeders I’ve owned. It would be great for one pet or two smaller pets. We have 5 cats and two feeders in different parts of the house. This one covers 2 cats fine. I do hope they come out with a bigger model at some point.The food tray is loose on the unit so it doesn’t stay together when picking it up like some competitors but it’s a lot easier to clean that way.You will need a usb to ac adapter. It does come with a cable though.As far as controls go, with smartthings you can configure like 5 settings for food drop quantity and then setup schedules for feedings.

I was excited for this to fit in with my Aqara ZigBee hub. It was a total let down. Not only is the lid not ergonomical but the lid opens easily. I could somehow deal with all that even with arthritis. What I canât deal with is it forgetting all about my cats meal plan after it was set and working. Thatâs just not right.I have two other units from another brand. One works very reliably but the other would forget its schedule too. Iâm a tech savvy engineer too so itâs just ashamed you canât trust these devices when your loved oneâs life depends on it.No bueno. Aqara you should be ashamed of yourself. Poor kitty went hungry.

I usually have to go there any use my finger to help the food to come out.Besides that, when the food comes out, it it doesn’t slide enough to be even in the bowl, so most of the food stays close to the “mouth” of the device, which I think makes the dispensing issue worse. With that, it also happens that the food falls out of the bowl entirely.I even tried 3d-printing a lip to guide the food into the bowl, but it didn’t help.Being fair with this device, I have had another dispenser that also had a hard time dispensing the food, but that one was very hands-off and it would “recover” by itself.
