ITEM: 7L Automatic Cat Feeder for 2 CatsCOMMENTS: This is my third automatic feeder that I’ve tried (all are still in use) and have included some comparisons to the others.PROS:- I love the dual dispensing option – I’ve found that it does equally distribute food to each bowl. (Keep in mind that you’ll have to have cats that aren’t food aggressive/don’t get along or will bully others out of their share).- The mechanism is probably one of the best in terms of equal portion sizes when distributed. My others have fluctuations in the amount dispensed on each turn due to jamming or other issues, but I haven’t noticed this at all.- It’s a great space saver – we really only had room for two feeders but added another cat; this one barely takes up any extra room.- It includes a quick start sticker with a QR code on the exterior of the base, which I actually really appreciate because trying to hold onto the instructions or remember them is frustrating as hell when you’re trying to reset or change the settings down the road. This is a big win in my book. It’s not aesthetically intrusive at all, so I have no issues with leaving it on.- The setting experience for this one is very smooth. The buttons actually fast turn the time when you hold down the button, which is a huge improvement over my others that you have to press repeatedly.- Battery back-up for the win. Our cats will occasionally accidentally remove the power from the wall and this helps to prevent losing the settings and ensure the little hellions are still fed.NEUTRALS:- You have pull off the food splitter to remove the bowl inserts. This could be a pro or a con; if you use toppers/supplement with wet food or otherwise need/want to clean the bowl inserts daily/often, it’s a little meh. Otherwise it’s nice to have it secured in to prevent them accidentally coming out.- The display numbers are quite bright and they’re actually visible in all light settings. This could be a pro or a con depending on your feelings. I’m leaning pro though, as I find it’s much easier to see and adjust than my other ones that don’t have back lighting/black numbers.CONS:- The lid *technically* latches; through a stupid sticker-velcro strap system. I find this really annoying and would have preferred a press latch like both my other two have for better security. The lid also fits wonky, like it’s just slightly too large or warped. We have ours set higher up to avoid the dogs getting into it and I find it a pain to replace properly after removing it.- I’m not a huge fan of how the food storage bin latches into the base. It’s just two thin plastic wings, and I find it a little difficult to slot in properly, especially when filled with food. (Luckily you can just top fill so you’ll rarely have to deal with this at all.)GIFTABILITY: (All of my packages are sent with Prime Delivery Day and manufacturer’s packaging preference selected. This may impact how things are shipped and cause my packaging experience to differ from yours.) It comes in Amazon shipping packaging. The manufacturer’s packing is a branded brown cardboard box. The base and all parts are in thin plastic bags, with the smaller parts stored inside of the hopper. I would say it’s directly giftable with gift wrap being optional.WOULD I PURCHASE? (Any prices noted are as of the time of writing): Yes, this was an overall improvement over my other automatic feeders. At $58.99 with a 20% off coupon available I find it to be relatively competitively priced (there are comparable items both higher and lower), but find it worth the asking price for the overall improved experience over my other ones.My rating system is: 5 = no/minimal complaints, very pleased 4 = minor complaints, overall satisfied, but could be better 3 = notable complaints, overall average to ‘meh’ 2 = significant complaints, unhappy and will not keep/use 1 = entirely complaints, misleading descriptions, straight to the trash product.

Equal dispensing into both bowls, battery backup, bad lid design
This is a cat food dispenser that has the ability to dispense into just one bowl, or to use the included diverter to distribute the food to two bowls, so you can feed two cats. When used this way, it dispenses equal food to both bowls (and this works quite well).It is also has battery backup, so if the power goes out (or your cat pulls the power cord out) it will continue to operate.The bowls are metal and easy to clean. It is easy to set the time and program feedings times and quantities.The main problem I had with this unit is the lid. It sits on top, and there is this kind of velcro-like strap that holds it in place. One of my (rascally) cats was determined to get the food inside, and after working at it a while, he was able to undo the strap to get the lid open, and help himself to the smorgasborg of food inside. I ended up having to fasten the lid on with packing tape to prevent this, which makes it a bit of a pain to refill (although it has a large hopper that will last a long time).The other problem is that the two bowls are right next to one another, and if one cat isn’t aware it has gone off, there’s nothing stopping the other (rascally) cat from eating the contents of both bowls…and this has happened, leaving our other cat with no dinner.
