I bought this for the ultimate test. Becoming a pack-mule for a 3 day trip to Disneyland. I’m former military and tend towards trying to impress the wife with feats of strength, such as carrying around water bottles, food and disposable stuff for each day of the visit.Up front: This backpack’s one drawback is that the back does not have a ridged insert / frame. So if I took a knee and had my wife search through the bag, I had to make sure my back was perfectly straight or the bag would fold a bit and make it difficult for her to rummage around and find things.Other than that, I wore this for the majority of the hours for 3 days. The straps for the shoulders are wide enough that the weight of about 6-8 water bottles, beef jerky, and other junk food didn’t bother me. On the third day I could feel a small hot spot in my back but my shoulders didn’t have the problem.Because of the material used where it presses against your back, it moisture wicks the sweat and acts like a small swamp cooler. I found that because of the moisture wicking of the backpack and the cooling towels, and shemagh scarf that I was carrying, it helped to keep the moisture where it counted the most. That made sure that I didn’t have the same amount of friction across my back with the frequent movement and taking the backpack off many times during the day.It was fairly water resistant and did great for the rides – but I did make the mistake of putting the cooling towels and scarf in the smaller compartment on the outside and it will moisture wick into the pack. It’s not bad at all, but just plan the load-out accordingly just in case it’s going to rain. A pack ‘raincoat’ would fix this easily.The belt buckle assembly did some sliding around the first day while it beat up the nylon a little bit and made it seat well. By the third day I could cinch down the buckle and it would stay put – it really helped alleviate weight on the shoulders. Just plan to use it for walks or something so it can get that little bit of wear and tear.A slight design improvement would be to make the part of the backpack that presses against your back a little more ridged and clear away an upside down T section in the moisture wicking material to assist with air flow through. Also possible to put a slightly thicker material that separated the kangaroo pouch on the outside from the main backpack compartments. That would easily make this backpack worth $15 more.If you’re looking to upgrade your 72 hour backpack to something a little more realistic, this is a phenomenal buy and you will not regret the purchase.

Comfortable, handy pockets, but straps could use more padding
We ordered 2 hiking packs for our family trip out west. My wife and I traded packs throughout the day so weâd have a point of reference between the 2 bags.Comfort wise, the adjustable straps fit well both on my wife and I. They all lay well and when adjusted correctly, we were able to find the appropriate body fit for both our different frames. The only problematic characteristic of the straps is their cushion. The straps are much thinner than expected for a hiking pack.As for storage. This pack was used primarily to carry a med kit, 4 roll up ponchos, 2 large water bottles, sunscreen & 2 bottles of bug spray. Everything was easily accessible and fit well. The zippers worked smoothly and survived our 2 week trip. The one issue we struggled with was the storage of the water bottles. Accessing the bottles was easy, but unfortunately putting them back proved to be challenging because of the safety straps.Honestly we both liked the other pack more, but this one is not terrible. Itâs a solid 3 1/2, but we rounded up to a 4 star item.

The quality and design was impressive for the money, I was thrilled with it. I took it on two cruises for my carry on bag then later on an air trip. It was during that trip that I noticed the main compartment zipper blew. I could get it to recatch but the teeth would separate again with little pressure. Using a large safety pin wonât prevent the teeth from separating again. Maybe this was just an unlucky dud because everything screamed durable however the backpack will get tossed because it will cost more to replace the zipper than getting a new backpack.

I was on the fence as to whether or not I wanted to purchase this bag because of mixed recent reviews. This bag is comparable to a FreeKnight back I bought off Groupon several years ago. While I have not yet used it, I have pulled on the seems and zippers to see if I got a defective bag. So far everything looks like itâs really good quality. The only issue I have right now is that the headphone hole isnât actually a hole. Id have to poke one through, which Iâll eventually do for my water bladder tube. I will update this review if I notice any other issues upon use. I suspect that those who had defective bags may have gotten them from a bad batch.
