Every Little Bit Helps
I am a 54 year old, very active, natural blonde with fair skin, who lives in a very harsh climate and spends a great deal of time outdoors. I have spent far too much time in the sun and the elements for someone of my skin type and coloring, and as a young person did a lot of sunning. I started using this product approximately three years ago, seeking ways to counteract some of the effects of aging. I use it at night as a base under a layer of hyaluronic acid and coconut oil. It is sometimes difficult to separate out the individual effects of layered products, but I have to say that the Vitamin C seems to have a big impact on clarifying the skin – my pores seem smaller and the skin in general appears smoother, very evenly toned, and perhaps even a bit tighter, but that is difficult to judge. That said, it seems to have a solid impact on skin texture, but don’t expect any change in lift or existing deep wrinkles. I like to think that it is acting as a preventative as well, and slowing down further skin damage. The product does not sting when applied, unless the skin is already irritated. That surprises me a little, because 25% solution seems rather strong.I’d be remiss if I didn’t add that a year ago, I attended an event where there was one of those diagnostic photo-aging booths where you put your face inside a box with a mirror, and skin damage and precancerous areas show up as dark spots in the mirror. I had NO dark spots at all, and the attendant commented how unusual that was for this population that lived on the ocean (she didn’t say “for your age”, but I figured that was implied I credit the Vitamin C.The only thing I dislike about this product is its tendency to crystalize in the bottom of the bottle. Oddly enough, the first bottle I had did not do it, but every subsequent bottle did. I contacted customer support about it, and they were very responsive, indicating that I should store it in the refrigerator. I do that now, which makes the nightly process a bit more cumbersome, but the crystalization still occurs. I don’t know if this is inherent in Vitamin C serum in general, or just this brand…perhaps others can comment on that.
