Great device that works as advertised. But: you need a POWERFUL computer or phone to edit footage.
Everything has been working very well so far. About 2 weeks of taking random footage walking, cycling, and some tripod timelapse footage.You need a powerful computer to edit videos. Recommended RAM is 32GB. Sometimes video projects won’t finalize properly, or at all. Transitions and edit can go missing or get messed up, and a few times the final video was cut short.None of this is the fault of the camera itself, though I’m sure the insta360 Studio software could use optimization, and it should have ALL the same features as the phone app!My phone won’t even attempt to edit videos with the insta360 app. It tells me straight up it doesn’t have the performance and won’t even make an attempt to edit.This may have focused on more negatives than positives, but I stand by the 5 star rating. Everything works perfectly and as expected, there are a ton of features and the images are all high-quality. They perfected the X series cameras with this. Longer battery life and built-in/removable/replaceable lens protectors are great. I’ve never had overheating issues yet, filming mostly on a bike going 10-16mph (16kph-25.75kph) in sunny, 74F (23.33C) weather.

The Insta360 X4 is a solid choice for capturing 360 video, especially if youâre into hiking or cycling. The 8k was a big selling point for me. Itâs waterproof but I only use it in the rain rarely. The app offers a lot of editing options, though it takes a bit to get a handle on it. The touchscreen could be larger, but itâs still manageable. I got my x3 two years ago and it’s been a real love-hate thing. After much consideration, I’ve decided to try the x4.These past two years, I’ve thought of my x3 as a camera that can acr like several cameras at once. It’s also a camera that lets me enjoy my trips without needing to keep my eye on a viewfinder. I can just wave it in the air or set it on a tripod and deal with the footage later.However, the x3 isn’t quite perfect yet. Here’s the reason why I bought the x4:1. The lens guards look much better quality. I was always scared to use the x3 as an “”action”” camera because of this, so I think I will use the x4 in more scenarios. I never put my X3 down unless it’s on a soft surface because I’m extremely afraid of the lens getting scratched, so the new lens guards are very important to me.2. I’m not into complex editing, and I don’t want to spend forever just to get one video. But the 360 app is way more user-friendly for beginners than other brands I’ve used before like gopro. The mobile app and PC studio means I can edit multiple clips in one go and it has a lot of easy tools to help do the edit.

Personal experience with the X4
If you’re looking for a 360 camera, this is the way to go. Insta360 are in a league of their own. Gopro isn’t specialized in 360 and I have my doubts about the max.Noticeable upgrade in quality. The X3’s main issue was its clarity and image quality. It wasn’t even close to the quality from my phone. My biggest hope for the X4 was the 8k resolution and it delivered.The included lens cover and case is a nice addition. The lenses are fragile and the cover is a great improvement because I’ve had my fair share of drops! However, it does affect the image quality.The new processor makes it much more responsive.Disadvantages:The body size and weight has increased, which I guess is a trade off for the higher image quality.8k does eat up battery life fairly fast so hoping for an improvement on that in the next model.8k also runs hotter, probably because of the power it needs to record so high. As long as the heat doesn’t cause the device to shut down, I think it’s acceptable, especially since it doesn’t need to be held like a phone. If it’s mounted it cools down with the wind.

Switching from my gopro to X4
I recently decided to switch from gopro 11 to the insta360 because they’re the same price but the X4 has way more features. I was excited and slightly nervous to try it since I’ve never used a 360 camera before, but I’m very happy that I did! It takes a little bit of time to learn how to use it and I’m not quite at the same level of editing as I’ve seen from others, but in my opinion the learning curve is worth every second. The AI editing features are a real time saver and I like that the app is free to use. For those like me who already have a ton of gopro accessories, I recommend getting a 1/4 inch gopro adapter to save some money instead of buying new accessories.

Um Meer, unter Wasserfällen etc.Die lange Akkulaufzeit war ebenfalls ein groÃer Pluspunkt, sodass ich die Kamera gefühlt ewig nutzen konnte, ohne mir Sorgen machen zu müssen.Selbst beim Schnorcheln oder JetSki hat sie mich nicht im Stich gelassen.In Kombination mit meinem iPhone 15 Pro und iPad Air war die Bearbeitung der Aufnahmen ein Kinderspiel.Jedoch: Bei einem weniger spannenden Urlaub könnte die Kamera natürlich nicht die fehlende Action kompensieren. Aber für alle Abenteuerlustigen ist die X4 definitiv ein Must-have!
