My cats are finally getting the hang of it after 5 days.
My cats always wake me up around 4 or 5 am to feed them, no matter how late I give them their last meal of the day. Hoping to avoid having to get up at this hour, I bought two of these units (they each eat different food and in a different location.) Setup was easy enough. I was able to coordinate the two so they activate within roughly 10 seconds of each other.Day one was pure comedy. The cats were nearby their dishes when the motors kicked on (it’s kinda loud). They freaked: Fluffed up like they’d stuck their little paws in an electrical outlet, ran, stopped, crouched, and hissed. Once I’d regained my composure, I coaxed each one into coming to look and eventually eat from the bowl.Day two through four, the cats still shy away when the motor turns on, but are no longer freaked out. They still don’t ‘get it’ … that the sound means food is now available to eat. In order to get them to associate the sound with something good (food), I made an effort to be nearby at mealtimes so when the dishes kicked on, I could say, “Hungry, hungry, hungry?” and then wiggle my fingers in the bowl to show the food was in there. “Hungry” is what I would say when feeding them before, so they already knew what those words meant. I just needed them to make the connection to the sound.Day five. The lightbulb goes on at the last meal of the day. (I feed them a little less than 1/4 cup food every 6 hours.) They got me up at 5:25 am for their first meal of the day, still not realizing food was already sitting in the dishes for them. So, for the next two meals, when the motor kicked on, in addition to repeating the word “hungry”, I picked them up and took them immediately to their feeders.Tonight was perfect. The feeders clicked on and both cats ran to their dishes right way and began eating. Hurray! I hope this will also be the case in the wee hours of the morning starting tomorrow. I’m very much looking forward to no longer having to endure their early AM pestering for food.Update after three months: I’m in Heaven! I get to sleep through the night. The cats love their feeders and so do I. My main motivation for getting these was the interrupted sleep, however, it’s been really wonderful all the way around. I have only to remember to fill the feeders each evening, and I’m set for 24 hrs … free to come and go without the worry of hungry cats awaiting my arrival for their next meal.July 2013: Wow! Four years later and I’m still loving these feeders. I think in all this time I’ve changed the batteries only a couple times. One of the units is still working absolutely perfectly and the other recently started to have difficulty rotating the bowl. It’s beginning to stick and in the last couple days, it’s happening a lot. Sometimes after a bit of strain it moves but other times it totally sticks and continues to run until I push the bowl. The mechanism that makes it spin seems to be a bit stripped. I’ve tried rotating the bowl to different positions on the spinner and cleaning it well, but have been unable to resolve the dysfunction. So, rather than waiting until it completely conks out, I decided to purchase another unit. I got four years of near-flawless functioning from this unit, so no complaints, especially since the other one is going strong. I’m looking forward to at least another four years of excellent performance from the new unit.Periodically (every couple of months) I have to resynchronize the bowls. They are running about 1 minute apart by then and I like both cats to start eating at roughly the same time so they are not both trying to eat from the feeder that activates first. This is a very minor inconvenience and if not for having two units that I need to activate together, it would be a non-issue.

Game changer
Our cat used to scream incessantly for breakfast every morning. Now he is fed his wet food twice a day by the robot, and *mostly* doesnât bother us anymore. Had one little glitch for a few days when I spilled water on the control panel; dried out and started working again. Changing the timer settings is not intuitive – I feel like one of the reviews had a good idea, to scan, and tape the instructions to the inside of the lid.Itâs not very sexy looking but it works great, seems reliable, and means more sleep for me 🙂

Simple to use and works great. My cat got used to it after a few days. It was slightly larger than I expected. I wouldnât recommend putting more than a day or two max of dry food in at a time, as it will get stale.

This feeder has worked perfectly since I purchased it in July 2013 for my cat. I originally wanted the type of feeder that would dispense food from a large hopper so that I could fill it before vacation and not worry about my family having to deal with refilling a smaller feeder. However, after reading many reviews, I realized that most people found that type of feeder did not accurately dispense the amount of food they set it for, and that lots of cats were able to gain access to the food between feelings.The PetSafe 5 Meal Feeder has 5 bowls that rotate clockwise. One of the bowls is always open, so you can only put four future meals in the feeder. You can set the timer to spin the bowls at any time you’d like, you do not have to choose a specific interval. I have mine set at 8:00 am and 7:00 pm. The timer has clear instructions and is easy to set. The whole feeder is made from hard molded plastic and is very easy to clean. The wheel of bowls is removable and may be washed under running water. At first I was concerned that the unit does not have back-up AC power, but the new D batteries I put in when I received it are still going strong today. The next time I go away, I will put in new batteries just to be safe, but upon my return I will put these batteries back in until they die so I that I will have some sense as to how long that takes. There is a mechanical “whirring” noise when the bowl spins, which does not bother my relatively timid cat. The noise is loud enough to hear from the next room, but would be unlikely to wake you up from sleeping.While it would probably not be impossible for a very motivated cat (or small dog) to advance the bowls, I think it would be very difficult for an animal to exert the amount of pressure needed and in the correct direction. They would have to push the partition between bowls several inches past the opening before the next bowl would be open enough to eat from.I originally intended this feeder to be used only when we are away, but immediately decided to use it daily. I feed my cat a specific measured amount per feeding and filling the feeder in advance ensures that my boyfriend will not over feed her on the days I work late. I refill the feeder every other night so I have one less thing to do in the morning and my cat loves that she still gets an 8:00 am breakfast even when I sleep in on the weekend.I do wish that the feeder had more bowls so that I wouldn’t have to fill it quite so often, but it works so well otherwise it’s hard to complain. This may be a bigger problem for someone that plans to leave their pet alone for more than a few nights, but we only leave our cat home alone for two nights maximum. If we are going away any longer than that, I take her to stay at my parents house and they keep the bowls filled. I have considered buying a second PetSafe feeder so that I can set one to go off every 24 hours in the morning and the other every 24 hours in the evening, but the feeder is fairly large and relatively unattractive so I am not sure I want two of them in my kitchen just so I can be lazier.

Most trust worthy automatic feeder on the market!!
I bought one of these for a two month old kitten over 2 1/2 years ago and have never had any issues. Still to this day have not touched the batteries in this device either! Perfect for any pet parents who have a busy schedule but still want there special critter on a routine diet. Just bought my second one for my new 3 month old kitten after little manz immediately found out how to hack a fancy, expensive automatic feeder I thought I’d splurge on. Needless to say, I felt comfortable falling back into the safe, comfortable arms of to these amazing, sturdy, trustworthy feeding devices! Thanks PetSafe!

Met 5 bakjes die ik op geprogrammeerde tijdstippen kan laten verschijnen, kan ik mijn poes automatisch van voer voorzien.Ik had verwacht dat je intervallen zou moeten programmeren, maar het zijn vaste tijdstippen op de dag (in mijn geval bijvoorbeeld 6:15, 18:00 en 22:15). Je kan op die manier dus je poes ruim anderhalve dag van eten voorzien als je een keer langer weg moet.De 4 D-cellen moet je eruit halen om hem uit te zetten, maar die kan je dan uitstekend in de 4 niet-zichtbare voerbakjes doen als je het apparaat weg legt.

Acheté pour un chaton pour mes absences les we.Mon avis après 3 mois d utilisation intensive :Les + : Ravie de l’appareil, la simplicité/rapidité de mise en route et la fiabilité. Je peux partir 3 jours sereinement avec 2 repas servis/jour puisque 5 cases.Les cases sont de bonne contenance et peuvent même convenir pour les repas de la journée peut être même + au bon vouloir du chat et tenir par conséquence 5 jours. Je ne le fais pas encore, mon chaton étant trop goulu. Aucun raté jusqu ici. Non bruyant. Le chaton l a adopté de suite. Il se nettoie tt simplement en retirant le bloc des 5 cases.Les – : Il manque :. 1 compartiment de couleur pour contrôler à mon retour s’il a bien tourné, solution trouvée : faire 1 marque au crayon,.1 trappe au dessus de la 1ere case aurait été un plus car du coup le chaton se jette de suite sur la nourriture visible.Nb : Attention il prend de la place au sol tout même.Bref tellement pratique que je l utilise quotiennement finalement 1 matin/1soir, et toujours pas changé les piles ! :D(A quand l appareil qui détecte SON chat, à ouverture automatique grâce à la détection de sa puce :D, j ai 2 chats au régime et âges différents, donc compliqué à gérer en cas d absence.)

El aparato funciona muy bien hasta ahora (casi dos meses). Nuestra gata se adaptó casi inmediatamente al aparato incluso reconoce el sonido cuando gira y corre hacia el mismo cuando lo escucha. El espacio para poner la comida es bueno, las baterÃas son tamaño D de esas enormes que antes usaban las radio grabadoras. Es fácil de programarlo para que gire a las horas que tú quieras. Un producto definitivamente recomendable. Me gustarÃa que usara otro tamaño de baterÃas pero es el único pero que le pondrÃa por ahora.Recibimos el producto a tiempo y en perfecto estado, es muy fácil de limpiar.

Ottimo prodotto, il design è terribile, veramente un pugno nell’occhio, ma funziona benissimo. Silenzioso, si lava facilmente, semplice da programmare. Ha anche un utile vano per riporre un siberino e mantenere il cibo fresco. Sarebbe stato meglio qualche vano per il ghiaccio in più, ma resta un prodotto di tutto rispetto. Lo uso sia per cibo secco che umido e quest’ultimo si mantiene fresco per diverse ore! Lo straconsiglio e non potrei più farne a meno!

Works flawlessly, except for one problem – the food tray has been designed in such a way that with every rotation, one entire food bowl AND 10% of the next food bowl shows up through the cutout on top. This essentially means that my cat is able to get a good paw-grip into the next food bowl and pull it out towards the opening, without having to wait for the preset time. I’m sure this might damage the motor, not to mention defeat the whole purpose of having an automatic pet feeder with preset timings.So I did a bit of good ol’ “Indian Jugaad” and taped a piece of plastic (lid of a sweet-box) such that the cut-out size on top is reduced, effectively not letting Kitty reach the next food bowl.Not that it stopped Kitty from trying to get to it. But once she realized it was too much effort and anyway, she eventually gets that food, she gave up. Now she just sits across from it, trying to telekinetically rotate the feeder with such intense glares! It has bettered her food anxiety and put us at peace too.Highly recommend this product. Maybe mine was a slightly defective piece and the other pieces won’t have this problem of the next bowl showing up.
