Best Laptop Bang for Your Buck
If you’re looking for a powerhouse laptop that can you can use for intensive photo editing and gaming, DO NOT buy this chromebook. If you want a reliable, sturdy computing device with seemingly endless battery life for web browsing, social networking, basic word processing and light blogging, DO get this chromebook! The red color scheme of the model I purchased reminds me of a Panasonic 8 track player from the 70’s that I once owned. I put a Rat Fink sticker on the front of it just for added nostalgia. Seriously, though, you can’t beat this little laptop’s quality for the sub-$200 price tag with anything else. I bought this ASUS model to replace the HP chromebook that I’ve been using for over two years with no issues whatsoever. I had to replace it only because I was careless and left it sitting out in the open where a six year old could smash it. That was it for the LCD screen. I will be keeping this one in a sleeve when not in use. I LOVE the chrome OS and the it links up seamlessly with the Google apps on my Android phone. The weight is under three pounds and the charger is small. You can take this machine with you anywhere without hassle or feeling like you’re lugging something around. I was using my wife’s iPad with a bluetooth keyboard while waiting for this chromebook to arrive. I must say that I prefer this cheaper machine much more. No bells or whistles but it does everything I need and it boots up in seconds.

Its red, cheap, and doesn’t dissapoint
So I bought this because it was red and I wanted to try out a chromebook. I bought mine second hand through amazon wherehouse, came in perfect condition. Honestly one of the best purchases I have made. It has a phenomenal battery life, I use it for ~3-4 hours a day and charge it every 2-3 days. At least 9 hours, if not more. Given its $200 price point all the specs are pretty good. It has a very bright 720p screen that has poor viewing angles, but looking straight on is fine. usable touchpad and keyboard. ChromeOS is nice and quick, but I almost immediately installed crouton and ran linux alongside it. The cpu holds up quite well, not much ram so things slow down at around 8 tabs, provided one or two of them is streaming content. I can play minecraft on low settings in linux. I gave it 5 stars because it is actually useful. Its very mobile, it does the internet, and google handles the rest(docs, sheets, etc.). If thats all you need and only have $200, buy this.

Great laptop with minor design flaw.
It’s only my first day with my new Chromebook and so far I am in love with it. I was agonizing about which size, brand and even color laptop to choose. Should I stick with Windows or try Chromebook? So many questions and even more answers to confuse me.I wound up choosing this ASUS Chromebook based on over 1,200 positive reviews here. I chose the Red color and love it. It’s not a fire engine red but more of a blood orange color which I really like. I don’t find it garish in the slightest which I was a bit afraid of, and I find it to be pretty stylish actually.Right out of the box it turned on instantly like a tablet and the battery was already at 35% charged. This is my first non Windows laptop and after a bit of initial navigating and exploring, I find I don’t miss Windows at all. My sole need for this laptop is surfing the internet, writing e mail, shopping, paying bills, banking, watching Netflix & Amazon and just basic web browsing. If that’s your need as well, then this is a great choice!Time will tell if my 5 star review holds up so i’m going to come back in about 3 months to leave an update on my review. We’ll see if i’m still as giddy about my new Chromebook at that time lol. But today, I highly recommend it to people with the same laptop needs as mine.Oh, I almost forgot….I asked a question here before I bought about the 13.3 size. For years, i’ve used a 17″ laptop at home (that’s dying) and my Amazon Fire tablet for travel, and I was wondering if this 13.3 size would be a good replacement for both, and my conclusion is that it sure is…and perfectly I might add.I already threw my 17″ into the closet and will gladly be using this ASUS as my main home computer and will happily be taking it along with me on travels and leave my Fire at home. To me, this is a perfect size home & travel computer!EDIT: 7/20/15 : I’m back after only one day to share my experience so far with a minor problem. It’s the hard edge of the laptop where the hand rests while using the trackpad. It’s so hard edged and sharp to me that it’s uncomfortable. I don’t know why they made it this way. The edges could stand to be much more rounded to accommodate the palm when it rests there. I find it’s really a pain (yes, pun intended) and while i’m not going to return it for such a minor issue, i’m searching online for pads that will work for this model to help make it more comfortable.Hopefully ASUS people read these reviews and will take this into consideration when designing their next model. I think many of us would much prefer comfort over style. And if anyone has recommendations for good pads to get for this, feel free to suggest as i’m still searching. I still like this laptop….just hate the sharp edged design so i’m taking one star off my review bringing it down to 4 stars.*****Edit 8/22/25*****So after a month of using my Chromebook daily I still love and recommend it. I am getting used to the sharp edge…I just learned to keep my hand off it while browsing the web. I never bought anything for it as far as a hand rest…I just live with it. Other than the edge, I am very happy with this little laptop.I love how I can just open it up and i’m online within 2 seconds! THe performance is fast, but then again I never have more than 3 tabs open at once as I just use this for web surfing, e mail, shopping (on Amazon of course!), and Netflix which works great on this.I haven’t yet traveled with it yet, but I personally feel it’s just a tad too big for comfortable travel, and i’d probably leave it at home and just take my Fire tablet with me….but i’m also now considering buying the 11.6 inch Chromebook for travel since i’m so happy with this one!The only thing i’d change is the color…I like the red that I have…but I think i’d go for the blue one next time….Still 4 stars from me for this one!EDITED AGAIN 9/2/15I took off another star for something that really really bugs me. I know it’s not the way I type because it ONLY happens with this Chromebook keypad.I’ll type the first letter of a word capitalized…and almost 90% of the time the 2nd letter will capitalize also and I have to go back to lower case it. In the beginning, it was a minor annoyance, but after a while it’s really really annoying. So many sentences look like this in this example…..”THe name of this laptop is CHromebook. I bought it from AMazon.com.”…..the shift key must stick for a second or so causing the second letter to capitalize….so then I have to go back and lowercase the second letters on those words….so so annoying!”…I think it has to do with the keyboard so i’m taking off a star for that. Other than that….it’s an good laptop. I would love this completely if the sharp edge was more rounded and the cap problem would go away.EDIT 10/6/15I’m now experiencing random freezing and I have to close the browser and reopen again. It doesn’t happen too often and the browser opens back instantly again, it’s still very annoying. I’m leaving it at 3 stars because I still like it, but starting to wonder just how long this will last before it’s going to become more and more annoying that i’ll just dump it for another laptop.

and great for just surfing the internet
I have had this for about two months. Overall is a decent secondary computer, very light weight, long battery life, and great for just surfing the internet, but it does slow down considerably when you have more than 5 or 6 tabs open. The keyboard feels a tad cheap and can be touchy at times, but it is much better than a virtual keyboard. Then again this is not meant to be a primary laptop or compete with a Mac Air. This is still a early version of where computing is headed with a web based OS. Google is doing a great job so far and continually improving the experience with Chrome OS.Overall it is a nice computer to use as your secondary computer and for when you are traveling as well.Update: After about a year the trackpad on the laptop has proved to be useless. It only works if you literally press really hard in the lower half of the pad.

not a great purchase. Its great that its cheap and that it is very light, but there are many flaws, such as…1. mouse-pad becomes glitchy over time2. You cannot download anything or download t.v shows because it is not Mac or P.C3. After a couple months of use, it becomes very slow, even after completely erasing everything on the computer4. If you do not have a google account/gmail, don’t buy it5. If you are hard of hearing, do not get this computer, the speaks are abnormally quiteSpend an extra hundred dollars and get a computer that will last longer.

I’ve had the chrome book for about a month now. true to its claims,PROS:Product (Chromebook):- it is lightweight – easy to carry- it has an amazingly long battery life – i mean extremely AmAzing! and it does everything it claims.- I keep it on for long hours because my school work requires a lot of reading and writing so many papers and so far i haven’t experienced any excessive heating/change in temperature generally.- the Chromebook came without any defects or damagesShipping:- The shipping was ok, it came 4 days before the actual estimated date.- I had no problems with the packaging or handlingCONSthe reason I’m giving it a 4-star rating is:- I’m not a fan of the chrome store and the apps on it; i actually expected better- I have experienced some pages freezing a couple of times now – which of course, everyone hates!- i don’t like using Google docs!other than these, its been a good experience so far. if you’re looking for something to surf the web with, carry out other basic functions (like saving and editing documents, checking emails, basic office suite functions – and i mean basic!), and you don’t mind having to work on the ‘cloud’, then this is good for you.PS: I am not a computer or IT guru! this is just a review based on personal ‘lay-man’ judgement.

I use this laptop for school almost everyday, and it’s great. It’s perfect for browsing the web and completing assignments. For me, it works great because I use lots of Google applications, such as Google Docs, or Google Sheets. I could see this being an issue if this was your only personal computer. Because of the operating system, this laptop cannot run programs such as iTunes, or Microsoft Word. As long as you acknowledge that going into it, this is a great laptop. The reason it’s isn’t 5 stars is because when I use it at night, or in a quiet setting, it’s easy to notice a high frequency squeak that emanates from the laptop. If you’re using it alone at your desk, it’s easy to get annoyed by the noise after a few minutes. From my understanding this isn’t a problem with all of these laptops, but mine had this issue. In summation, a great laptop for rudimentary uses. Great for anyone who wants a lightweight and easy to use laptop.

I mainly bought this laptop because of the price and the color. I used to have a windows ASUS laptop so I’m really used to that OS and being able to use microsoft office. Having to rely for chrome on everything took about a week to get used to and learn some tips and tricks.Love the size and weight of it, very light and easy to travel with.Works fast.Amazing battery life.Does everything I need it to do (go on the internet and have documents) … you can either use google docs or microsoft online so there are ways around the limitations.I don’t like that you can’t use skype on this. But i love the color mmmm. I see it as red, my friends see it as orange.

Okay, it’s my first experience with a chromebook so my review is biased and not necessarily just about the unit.Pros – Price, Great battery life, good for browsing, screen quality decent, light weight.Cons – No printer driver support (wtf, I need to use cloud printing?), No parental controls that actually work (hello google, kids use these more than adults, get with it), App store sucks (why is this not more like Android OS?), SSD is tiny (this is an internet only machine. Don’t expect to use it offline for much)
