Happy Husband Happy Life
We live in a rural area where it is not only cold out but there are concerns about hunting during hunting season. I was so happy to find such a great quality had in a bright orange. My husband has a larger head, and this fits him comfortably. He said it is very well made and very warm. Not overly warm but just right. He also appreciates the mouth covering which he uses a little lower on his neck due to his wearing glasses. He was very happy with this gift. Would buy again gladly.

Great for wind blocking
Bought this to wear biking to work in the winter because hoods restricted my ability to turn my head for visibility. We have mostly dry winters – so can’t vouch for snow but was great at protecting from wind at freezing and below. was definitely water resistant against light snow/rain. Large enough to fit over thick hair and even a bun. For extra protection I doubled up with a tight beanie on the coldest days. Probably too big if you don’t have a lot of hair or have a smaller head.Stitching held up all through winter with daily use. Stayed tight through a 30 minute commute way better than a knit cap.Based on appearance of the fabric, I didn’t machine wash – just hand washed in the sink and air dried. Kept it’s shape and still looks new minus a little flattening of the faux fur.

This is a warm hat that fits over my very large head. It keeps my ears warm, too.
I have to walk across my parking lot at 4:15 am before the sun rises, and I often get a cold neck and ears. My head is very large, however, so If I wear a hat my hair ends up looking funny after I get to work if the hat is too small. If it is raining or snowing an umbrella won’t work because I need my hands to wipe snow away from the windows as I am opening the door. (it’s a poorly designed door.) Also, I have to carry around portable oxygen equipment, so that makes carrying an umbrella extra clumsy.Baseball caps and rain hats are usually too small, and they aren’t warm enough anyway, at least not for my ears. This hat is good because it comes down over my ears, and also covers the top part of the back of my neck. I leave the neck strap loose because I don’t like feeling choked. The hat sits loosely on my head, and the liner material doesn’t seem to charge my hair with too much electricity, like I was afraid that it would. There is one problem, however, in that there is too much room between the top of the hat and the top of my head, so that the hat covers part of my vision area. So i sewed a small knit scarf into the top of the hat so that the front rim wouldn’t come down so far. It creates a cushion so that the hat edge stays farther away from my eyes. It works.I don’t use the face mask, it’s not cold enough for that to be necessary. My defrosting system heats up pretty quickly. The rear windows have heat strips. I use anti-freeze wiper fluid, so that melts most of the window ice on the outside. (although I have to replace wiper blades rather frequently.) There is a brief period before the forced air is completely warm, but the hat helps to keep my ears from any cold air inside the car.The windows are clear of inner fog and outer ice after a few minutes, so that I can see to drive. Sometimes I have to scrape a bit of ice, or use my scraper-brush to move snow, but not usually. the hat protects me from most of the moisture of a light rain or snow. By the time I get to work (20 minutes or so on an icy day) I am warm, and I haven’t suffered from cold forced air or outside precipitation. When I’m driving I forget that I have it on.There is another short journey across a parking lot after I get to work, but there is an overhang while I get the door open. I’m much more comfortable and dry once I get inside the door at work. It’s a very warm, soft, fluffy water-resistant (water-proof? maybe the fabric is water-proof, the construction would modify that description) light-weight hat that folds up so you can put it in a carry-bag if you aren’t using it. It has a face-mask, and a throat closing feature that I don’t use, but those features would make it even more useful in a colder, windier, or wetter climate, when a person had to spend (or wanted to spend) more time outside in the winter.

It is big to allow of wearing a balaclava underneath
There are many complaints posted that this ushanka is too large but it is set up for people either with a lot of hair to fold under it but primarily for wearing a balaclava underneath it.The faux fur trim over the eyes is as thick as it is to prevent windburns on one’s eyebrows and to reduce glare from the snow and sky.The tiny over-ear flaps are to deal with incidental windburn issues with the basic design. Up, they address windburn over the ears, down they address windburn issues with the ears themselves AND those flaps hold your goggles in place when buttoned down. This is a minus 35 and below Fahrenheit ushanka for high wind chill factor environments not just a fashion statement. They get really warm fast.If you are a woman and the hat is still too large, find out what the koralya hairdo is all about. Russian female pilots during the Great Patriotic War donned a koralya underneath their very similar flight helmets to help hold them in place. (The koralya shows off your epic chin line too :>) Alternatively, buy a set of Cozyphones which is a set of headphones built into a winter headband: they will fit into this Read Deal head-warming hat.I cannot believe the sweet price but hey, this is Amazon so go figure.
