Stronger than you may want, but probably what you need.
So, I bought this kit last summer. The first thing I did was weld the eyebolt on, so it definitely wouldn’t come off. The magnet stuck to my metal table so hard I had to beat it to the edge with a block of wood and a hammer. I then took it out many times. I didn’t really get much, but like real fishing, that’s how it goes. Today, I wasn’t paying attention and the magnet ended up stuck to the side of a bridge. It’s still there now. I couldn’t pull it off. My wife and I couldn’t pull it off. I hooked the rope onto my 4 wheel drive vehicle, and it still didn’t budge. So, I am now without a magnet and rope. I promise, this magnet is very powerful on a flat, clean surface, which is what the rating is for. Most everything under water is rusty, dirty, and covered with scale. That means you need a lot more magnet than you think you do. But, you need to be careful of that power. Do not let it adhere to a nice, flat surface, if you can help it. You will lose it. But, that’s how it goes. You’re going to lose it eventually. As soon as it hits something heavy enough that you can’t lift it, you’re done. It’s a fun hobby, and I’m buying more magnets right now, but know that buying any magnet is not your final purchase. You will almost definitely lose it eventually.

Holy cow! This thing is STRONG!
My grandson and I have been watching magnet fishing on YouTube and thought it would be fun to try it ourselves. I ordered a magnet from somewhere on line. It was ok, but really not the greatest. I decided to look for a stronger one and found this one here on Amazon. WOW! This thing is amazing. My grandson stuck it to the iron anvil in the garage and we could NOT GET IT OFF! Not just by pulling it anyway. We had to slide it off and it was still holding really good. This is a strong magnet. My only concern, is if it connects itself to something that is too heavy to lift out of the water (if you are magnet fishing in bodies of water) you might not be able to get your magnet back! This thing is STRONG. If you are looking for a strong, affordable magnet? This is it!

Fun. Nice quality rope and magnet
I was able to find my nephews fishing rod in a lake! Works nicely. I havenât tested but I feel like the magnet force they claim it can handle is off. Maybe because of the smooth surfaces items can slide off. I feel like I should have to struggle to pull objects off of it which I didnât. But I have great fun with it. Okay price and it already paid for itself by finding fishing gear in a lake.

For the money it really is a great beginners kit. But don’t expect the 700lbs that it’s advertised as, it’s quite weak. Weaker than the ferros doughnut magnets you get at a hardware store.

I tested this magnet with a 25 lb iron dumbell, it only picked up one side off the floor (about 10″) then the dumbell fell off. I may contribute it to the magnet being on the side and not flat on the bottom, therefore any object will simply slide off. It may be good for dragging on the sea floor, but anything with SOMEWHAT substantial weight, or embedded in mud or sand, will surely not be lifted (unless your looking for fishhooks or a cell phone). I sincerely doubt this has the pull power of 1000 lbs (even divided 500 lbs per side) is an extreme stretch of the imagination, talk about misrepresentation. The threadlock is a little thin and plastic bottle is almost rubber-like, the wording on the label has grammar as if a Kindergartner wrote it (indicative of poor craftmanship). I liked the softness and flexibility of the rope, though a little thinner than I had thought. The grappler hook is very lightweight hollow aluminum, but sharp and appears to be properly welded. The gloves were similar to tyvek material and the rubber coating was very thin. I’d imagine it would be good on extreme hot days. Definitely going to return this for another, and one that has the magnet on the flat side and one made in the U.S.
