A fun and scary collection.
Ghost Camera, by Darcy Coates, is a just released collection of novellas and short stories, with the title story being one of her earlier works. Having been out of print for a while, I am pleased to see that it has been resurrected (no pun intended) for us spooky story fans to enjoy. A few of the other short stories I had already read, but it was a pleasure to see these works put out together.Darcy Coates has been writing supernatural stories for a long time now, and I have previously enjoyed many of her works. I would certainly recommend this collection to anyone else who is a fan of the genre.

Such a great collection
Let me start off Iâm usually not a fan of anthologies but I really liked this collection of short stories. The writing was good and this was my first Darcy Coates novel but definitely not my last I think I have two or three more waiting for me to read them. Starting off with Ghost Camera it was unnerving and interesting I think it would make a good movie. The next story, Payment for the Dead, the boy being resurrected reminded me of the movie Terrified I watched last year. Death Birds, Untamed Things, and A Box of Tapes were probably my favorite stories. The House on Boxwood Lane, Remains, The Run to Broken Ridge Lighthouse, and Cathedral were pretty good too but the other ones definitely gave me more of the creeps. This is a great collection of horror stories! Definitely recommend.

I guess I am disappointedâ¦
I was looking forward to reading this in time for fall and getting some spooky vibes. Let me start off by saying, I was misled into thinking Ghost Camera was a 300+ page story but once I started reading and looked at reviews and the synopsis again, thereâs short stories in this book. Ghost Camera was only about 7-10 chapters and the rest were all short stories.*SOME SPOILERS AHEAD BE AWARE!******Ghost Camera shouldâve been a short story too. I read in the beginning the author revised it. To me, it shouldâve been either a short story or a more fleshed out long version of this story. To me, it moved very quickly and I understand that part cause it wasnât a particularly long story. What got me was how the characters interacted. I found Jenine and Bree to be VERY unlikeable; especially when it came to them seeking out help through a paranormal investigator. This paranormal investigator(Richard Holt) advised them to DESTROY THE CAMERA AND STOP USING IT. What do they do? Go all karen on him saying heâs lying and that heâs a bad guy. I found this story not even scary just very annoying with the characters and I didnât care for their banter about relationships and jobs cause it didnât pertain to the story at all. And I felt that the story was underwhelming and couldâve been better. The short stories were so much better. Some were better than others(the graveyard, the birds as reapers, the monster house, and the VHS to name a few). The writing was a little fast paced for my liking, however, those stories arenât meant to be drawn out so itâs something I wasnât used to.Iâm sorry to the author cause I know they worked hard but I will say maybe the writing wasnât for my liking and I see others liked this book.

Ghosts Galore!
A Backstory:Jenine is attending a wedding and wants to get better pictures of everyone so she goes into a lighthouse that is not far from the wedding party, but while in there she finds an old polaroid camera. Jenine picks it up as she decides that maybe she would like to have instant pictures so she decides to take a couple of pictures from it since the camera still has film. But what Jenine doesn’t know is that she opened up a pandora’s box as the camera is not only old but is unique in that the pictures it takes contain ghosts. When Jenine is looking at the photos she has taken with the camera and sees the ghosts in the pictures she takes them to her friend, Bree to make sure that it is not some kind of photo glitch. The two of them realize that the camera is dangerous when the ghosts start following Jenine around and then they start making contact with her. When the ghosts start getting more aggressive is when Bree springs into action and hunts down a paranormal ghost hunter, but even a ghost hunter might not be able to help as when the ghosts cross over into this world there might not be no way to stop them!Thoughts:This was a great short ghost story that has lots of atmosphere and ghost action! Author, Darcy Coates has always been a great ghost story teller and when I want to dip my toes in a haunted house or the haunted realm I usually seek out her books. This book was no exception as it keeps the pace going with the characters (Jenine and Bree) plus the ghost action intensifies as the story moves along! One more “Coates” book to add to my ghost collection. Giving this one four Paranormal Photo stars!

Really fun and get’s you in the Halloween spirit!
I love Darcy Coates, she is an automatic buy for me. I remember reading Ghost Camera 5 or 6 years ago and so it was really exciting to see it’s re-release! Also the bonus of additional short stories was awesome. Every one of them is great, spooky and creepy. Darcy is perfect for horror if you do not want super gruesome or heartbreaking doom and gloom. Most stories end with a “happy” note but not all. She is excellent with her settings and tension building, each story feels unique. Definitely pick this one up, it will get you ready for spooky season!

I got quite confused
I enjoyed this quick spooky read. I did get confused when the ghost camera story ended so abruptly and I was lead into other stories. I was convinced I clicked the wrong book on my Kindle. I really liked this once I realized what was happening!

spooky, but amazing
This book was very spooky. I couldnât put it down, but had to at night because it gave me the creeps. I loved all of it. The short stories were very well written and grabbed my attention right away.

An enjoyable take of a well known plot: camera and ghosts but with âspecial spicesâ that give this story a lot of flavour!

Amazing. Packed with short horror stories that keep you guessing.Ghost Camera – originally written when Darcy Coates was just a fledgling writer – wow. No wonder she has gone on to have an amazing back catalogue.A Box of Tapes – the last story in the collection, kept me awake at night. A real page turner.I also loved Untamed Things and Death Birds. The other stories in the were also worthy but as is often the case with short stories, were never long enough because they were so good.A must read for any horror fan.

This was a great read yet again by Darcy Coates. Finished very quickly but still really enjoyed it. The characters in the book were very relatable in terms of how friends are, which made the storyline flow easily. Did in fact give me a little nightmare…remind me not to read a Darcy Coates book right before I close my eyes for the night!

I didn’t realise Ghost Camera was a reworking of an earlier piece of work. I hadn’t read the original so had nothing to compare it against. Saying that, I did really enjoy the story, it was nothing ground breaking but still enjoyable. In addition to the reworked edition, there are numerous short stories (well, a couple of novella sized stories) included in this book. I would probably class it as a story collection. I enjoyed each story, and they were all wildly different, but the standout tales for me were Untamed Things, A Box of Tapes, The Run to Broken Ridge Lighthouse, and Death Birds- they suited what I look for in a horror story.Definitely worth a shot if you haven’t read any of Darcy’s work. Or even if you have.

There was enough vivid scene setting and plenty of tension building up to an experience that had my skin crawling. The story is still easy to follow and even has a nice sense of humour worked in. this is my second Darcy Coates book and will likely by a third one next time i have a craving for ghost stories.
