    Tractive cat mini gps tracker
Love this product! Purchased this tracker for our 11 lb male cat who will wander into adjacent wooded areas and thru neighborhood. Can easily follow his paths and whereabouts in almost real time on our cel, and quickly find/retrieve him. As a design engineer of implantable medical products I can be overly critical, however I found the Tractive mini tracker well-designed. Is reliable, accurate, easy to use, lightweight, fits well, and purchased at a fair price. Researched trackers of other manufacturers but chose the Tractive mini after reviewing its specs, and, receiving a recommendation by a fellow cat owner who happened to use the same product this past year. I must also do a shout out to the Customer Service team as they were prompt and gracious in answering my initial questions….. Am not fond of rechargeable products nor of monthly plans but respectively, battery life has been just fine, and, the monthly fee is not much (considering the loss of a missing cat). Overall, the Tractive mini tracker certainly exceeded my expectations……a two thumbs up.

    Exactly what I hoped for!
We inherited an outside cat when a neighbor left, and he became part of our family. We recently moved to a new house a few miles away from the old neighborhood and I was very anxious about letting him out in case he got lost or wandered back to the old house. I bought this tracker and got him used to it a few days before moving him. It has worked beautifully and given me peace of mind. The battery life can be extended by setting up a safe zone in your wifi network. It has also been really cool to see where he roams. There is a live tracking feature you can turn on. My only complaint is that the subscription cost/interval was not as I expected based on the description. Overall, I’m still happy with the purchase.

Tractive not attractive in many ways! AWFUL GPS
    1. The battery life on the device sucks. And it sucks even more because the makers of this created a way to “save battery” by asking users to set up a Power Saving Zone. This requires setting up your home wi-fi to search for your pet via bluetooth under a tab called FIND NEARBY. They wanted to do the same thing the makers of Tile, Airtag and Galaxy Smartag did. However Tile , Airtag, etc. do not force you to have your phone GPS on at all times for this Power Safe Zone to work just via BLUETOOTH. Yet Tractive does which in turn extends the device’s battery and instead drains your phone battery. Why Tractive engineers force having phone GPS on with a feature that doesn’t find the pet via GPS. Strange!2. The IRONY of all the above is that the 2nd way Tractive allows you to track your pet is via Google GPS with a tab called LIVE. You can ONLY use the LIVE tab if you are far away from your home’s wi-fi Power Saving Zone since this feature really uses just GPS. Even turning off wi-fi on your phone WON’T allow you to use LIVE. One could think who cares to use LIVE via GPS if the cat is at home. EXCEPT if you set up Power Safe Zone it seems 70% of the time you cannot track the cat with FIND NEARBY. In other words setting Power Safe Zone messes up the app and your cat is untraceable . So you won’t know if cat left the house!I kept thinking it was a fluke . Attempted every solution to a lame girl. Erase cache on app, log in and out of the app, get close to the pet. ONLY SOLUTION was to erase the Wi-fi Power Saving Zone .3. After erasing the unusable “power saving zone” the battery on the device lasted about 40 hours. It takes around 3 hours for the device’s battery to charge. A cat or dog can get lost during this time. So I STRONGLY ADVICE swapping your pet to a temporarily Airtag if you have an Iphone or a Smarttag PLUS if you have a newer Samsung Galaxy. These bluetooth trackers are pretty accurate and have longer range bluetooth capability than Tractive. You are not required to have GPS enabled on your phone at all times to track your pet via bluetooth since they are not GPS trackers. They also don’t require a subscription. Having them wear something is better than nothing unless you want to purchase 2 Tractives devices AND pay 2 subscriptions for just 1 pet while one of the devices is charging. But wait read more…4. Tractive Ring tone is very low. The Galaxy Smartag Plus and Tile ring tone are a lot louder. You better wear a hearing aid to find your pet via the Tractive ring tone.5. While learning the Tractive app found an “interesting” button called Heat and Tracemap. This button supposedly shows where your cat has been. Somehow it showed my cat had moved 407 feet. Not sure how this could have happened. Unless my cat has invisible levitating powers unbeknown to me. The device was on my lap then on my cat who sat 5 feet away from me. Another fluke!6. Tractive has a tab called Virtual Fences. I live in a 4000 + sq foot home with 80 feet length of AC area. Was getting excited something finally would be of use in this app. Wanted to know if my cat jumped out in the pool, yard or escaped. EXCEPT when setting the perimeter around my home I kept getting a warning saying: ” The Virtual Fence is Too Small” . What?7. Tractive requires you to pay RIGHT AWAY for a subscription. You don’t even get a 1 day free trial test. Buy the device and be ready to pay upfront 1 year. Yes feel free to waste your time asking for your money back because we all have lots of it to spare trying to recover the $ that took us time to make.Dear Garmin please start making GPS devices for cats. You guys are the gurus of anything GPS.For now I will be testing the Marco Polo tracker and use this Tractive to track coons and possums inside my garbage can instead. That may be the only place this stupid device works.

Faulty, but well worth the purchase
11/9/24 I’ve been a customer for over a year now. Buttercup is still on her first tracker and it still works great. Atticus’ 5th tracker’s sound feature didn’t work. His 6th tracker got lost. His 7th tracker won’t connect to GPS. I just ordered #8I’ve really come to rely on these things and am hoping that as their popularity increases, they reliability doesn’t decrease. I feel as though I’m already noticing a difference.8/22/24: Atticus’ 5th tracker arrived with a glow in the dark collar that I did not order. I wonder if the Tractive Group saw my review and tossed it in to sooth my upset. It worked. This time, I decided to try the plastic bit to attach the tracker instead of the silicone sheath, because that’s what the video instructions said to do. It’s only been two days, but it’s working.8/13/24: My female, Buttercup, is still using the same tracker I bought her 10 months ago. I just ordered my male, Atticus, his 5th tracker. This last one did not last too much more than one week. The collar didn’t pop off. The tracker fell out of the holder. I’m upset. I spend a fortune on these things. This time, I’m not sure it was my cat’s doing.Originally reviewed October 2023,Updated 7/31/24: I am about to replace another tracker and decided to update my review again. I have come to really rely on these things and highly recommend them even though they still are far from perfect.First let me say that I got this because my neighbor uses it for one of her cats and recommended it. The mixed reviews worried me, but after a few weeks of use, I am changing my review to recommend it also. It’s not perfect, but it works.I bought two. One was faulty, but Amazon replaced it easily. Because of this, I set up my male cat’s tracker first and had time to think about whether I wanted to pay for two accounts. It’s stressful, because they ask that we pay for two years of tracking up front. It’s a lot of money before we know whether or not we are even going to use the product. It’s not a perfect system, but I did go ahead and buy a second 2 year package for my girl cat about a week or two later.ISSUE ONE: The WiFi setting is NOT at all helpful. Just don’t use it!Others mentioned this in their reviews, so for the first almost 10 months , I didn’t bother with it. Then, yesterday, when setting up my boy’s 4th replacement, I thought what the heck and gave it a try. IT’S HORRIBLE!!! It said my cat was safely in the WiFi zone (though he was nowhere I could see) and it would not allow me to locate him in any way. I went outside and just called for him.Others are right. It is difficult to toggle back to the GPS side. I had to delete my “Power Save” zone and then wait for what seemed like an hour for the system to update. Even then, it said my connection was weak to track at first.Luckily, my cat is a good boy and comes when called.ISSUE TWO: The location is not super accurate. It’ll alert me that my cat has left my property and returned and left and returned when all the while the cat is asleep on the sofa next to me.Because of this, I don’t really give the text alerts telling me they’ve left “Home” too much regard. If I get a text alert that they’ve entered a danger zone, then I open the app and Live Track my cat.Live Tracking isn’t 100% exact either, but if I had to estimate, I’d say that its accuracy is within a few feet. So, I get a general idea of which back yard to call toward. But this lack of accuracy means that I completely disregard bonus features like tracking my cat’s activity and health. The location isn’t accurate enough to know when your cat isn’t moving, and if it does finally detect that your cat is still, it’s more likely the cat is no longer wearing the tracker. They seemed to update the software recently, and I think it actually made the location a little worse.BUT knowing where my cat is, even if generally, is so much better than having no idea where he is!!! And that’s why this product is useful.ISSUE THREE: I bought all my trackers when they were on sale for about $35. For this reason, I didn’t bother getting the insurance (as it only replaces one tracker per year. Now that Atticus is on his (updated) 5th tracker in 10 months time, I see how getting one tracker for slightly less might have been nice, but it’s up to you. Buttercup is still on her first tracker.ISSUE FOUR: The sound the tracker plays is very soft. You have to be fairly close to hear it. I have forgotten where I put it down in the house and located it with the sound feature, but outside…nope. Unless the cat is right next to me, it’s almost impossible to hear. The light feature during the day will seem equally useless. However, I had the opportunity to need it once in the dark, and it is super useful then. That said, the sound feature is my favorite (outside of Live Tracking). I trained my cats to come for a treat every time I play the sound on their collars. Now, my boy (who is very treat motivated) can be on the next street over. I can play the sound on his collar, and 3 out of 4 times, he’ll just trot home for his treat. My guess is that 25% of the time, he’s in hot pursuit of some prey and just ignores my request. In those cases, I go and fetch him.ISSUE FIVE: Another feature I do not bother using is the Radar. Because I don’t have WiFi set up, it is completely useless.I tried to retrieve all four of my lost trackers, and it’s totally hopeless. The accuracy isn’t precise enough. The sound feature isn’t loud enough. The collar often pops because the cat is in location with a lot of bushes and shrubs. So…ISSUE FIVE: Battery. Any GPS app will drain a phone’s battery. Using Live Tracking drains both the tracker’s battery and my phone’s. When I first got these things, I Live Tracked them quite a lot. I was curious to learn their routines. So, I was charging phones and trackers all the time. Now, I’ve found solutions. One, I don’t have to Live Track as much as I before, because I have a sense of what my cat’s routines are. Two, I keep a portable phone charger handy for those moments when my phone is at 20%, but I need to go and find a cat. Three, I charge my trackers at a minimum of every second day. I never let my cat’s go out with them at less than 50%.The good news is, the trackers charge pretty quickly.ISSUE SIX: This one was in my initial review, but they fixed it pretty early on. When I first got the trackers, I couldn’t see both my cats on the same map. Instead, I had to toggle back and forth to their individual maps. Now, however, I can Live Track them both at the same time and watch them on a single map. So, it’s no longer an issue.ISSUE SEVEN: My last issue, and it’s a minor one. The Tractive company is located in Europe. When I first received a faulty tracker, I tried to contact them. I’m in California. So, the time difference made it virtually impossible. They did eventually handle my issue, but they never responded to my email, and I was not able to get them on the phone. All my issues aside, here is why this product works for me: The app allows me to set up a virtual fences (lines on a GPS map). Whenever my cat crosses one of these lines, my phone sends me an alert. (Again, it’s not perfect, but it’s functional.) I’ve now created a network of neighbors who know my cats. They have name tags and are microchipped, and with this app, it’s the best I can do for them when they’re outside.I know the outside-cat haters are many, opinionated and loud, but my boy cat’s personality changes when he’s not allowed outside. He becomes moody and anti-social and hisses at people when they try to pet him. A few hours outside each day, and he is the friendliest most easy-going cat people have ever met, he’s loving and lovely and pure joy, AND NO AMOUNT OF INDOOR ENRICHMENT CHANGES THIS. Both my cats adore being outside, and this tracker is part of my compromise with them. Will it guarantee their safety? No. It does offer me tremendous peace of mind though.

Es compacto, marca bien el GPS y es fácil de entender, tengan en cuenta la suscripción aún a la aplicación pero vale la pena.Lo único que no me.gusta es que la.bateria no dura lo que menciona

I purchased 2 trackers for my cats and signed up for the base monitoring subscription services. The trackers work great and the cats don’t seem to mind wearing them when I send them outside. The trackers haven’t fallen out of the collar and have good battery life. The Tractive app is great because, it track where in the neighbourhood the cat wanders throughout the day and the amount of distance covered. I have had to go find the cat a few times and the GPS is accurate for finding them when they are out late and you need to go get them. From the app you can trigger a sound and light from the tracker to help in locating the pet. The sound that is made is not the loudest; but having the option is nice.I did have trouble with once of the trackers connecting to the GPS and worked with customer service. They tried several options to restart and reset the tracker; but after a few unsuccessful trys they sent a replacement GPS tracker. The dialog with customer service was quick and polite, while I wasn’t happy that the GPS wasn’t working Derek from customer service was responsible and did his best to help me out and add a month of extra subscription for the inconvenience.Overall very satisfied with the product, service, and partner app. I have peace of mind that my cats can be easily located and I can track where they are and go.

My favourite thing about it is how good and accurate the live tracking is & that you can add different members to be able to track. My cat is a certified escape artist and I was tired of going on 3 hour search parties for him with the apple air tag😅 now our whole family can easily find him if needed. I also like the leaderboard with all the other cute cats. The device itself even being mini is a little big , so I would definitely say if your cat is on the smaller side it might be too big. My cat is about 10 pounds & he’s a very long boy, so it works fine. But I still wouldn’t mind it being a little smaller. The size of it kinda looks like an ankle monitor, as if he’s in home jail😂 the good thing is that it’s light. The only thing I think would make it even better is if the alarm sound was a little louder, for when you’re looking for them. But overall 10/10
