    Great entry level camera.
If you are wanting to jump into the full frame camera world, then this is a great option. The Canon RF system is growing in leaps and bounds and this body is a great price to get started. It has all the internals of the Canon R6II so you get the fast AF, accurate tracking, and amazing picture quality. The battery is much smaller in this model but you can buy replacements at a good price. It only has one card reader but that is more than sufficient for beginners. The camera is lighter and smaller than the R6II so I find it easy to carry for travel and walking. With the 50mm lens I find it to be a great street photography camera.Video is amazing as well with 4K60 in C-LOG3 that is beautiful.Overall this is a bargain for entry into the RF system and provides amazing images, fast autofocus, and lightweight. You can not go wrong with this camera.

    Great camera. Loved it.
The Canon R8 is a fantastic camera that has exceeded my expectations in every way. As someone who enjoys both photography and videography, I found the R8 to be incredibly versatile. Its 24.2-megapixel full-frame sensor delivers stunning image quality, with rich colors and excellent low-light performance. I was particularly impressed by how well it handles high ISO levels, allowing for crisp, noise-free images even in dim conditions. The ergonomics of the R8 are spot on—lightweight and comfortable to hold, making it a great choice for extended shoots. Despite its compact form, the camera feels durable and well-built. I also enjoyed the vari-angle touchscreen, which is extremely useful for shooting at unconventional angles, and the USB-C charging makes it convenient to charge on the go.Overall, the Canon R8 strikes a great balance between advanced features and usability. Whether you’re a professional or an enthusiast, the Canon R8 delivers performance that will inspire creativity and elevate your photography or videography. I highly recommend it!

A perfect full frame camera for photo enthusiasts
I love this camera. It has fantastic autofocus, feels good in the hands, and takes outstanding photos and video. It has excellent low light performance. This is the least expensive, yet fully featured full frame camera offered by Canon. It has most of the features, and the advanced internal processing similar to the more expensive “professional” Canon cameras, but at an enthusiast price point. For professional quality photos and videos, and a camera that offers a full frame sensor, the R8 represents a tremendous value.Be aware that this camera requires the use of full frame RF canon lenses, which are a bit more expensive and heavy then the lenses offered for their APSC camera bodies.

Big features in a small package
This is my first mirrorless camera and I selected the R8 for its feature rich full-frame body as an upgrade from my 5D mkii and 5D SR bodies – which are nearly twice the size and weight. Digic-X is amazing, AF is lightening fast and accurate, connectivity is easy, and, of course, the photo quality is superb. This diminutive body does lack IBIS and has pitiful battery life – but these are easily managed, especially at this price compared to the R6 mk ii!

I wish I could give it 4.5 stars
There isn’t much negative to say about this camera. I had a cropped sensor 90d that I liked but I wanted full frame and 10bit video. The image quality from this camera is great. It’s the perfect entry into full frame cameras. It’s the exact same camera as the Canon R6 mark ii, with 3 or 4 little differences. The sensor and electronics are the same, the video is the same, but the body and a few features are different. The body is smaller, more like an EOS RP. I have big hands so I opted to spend the money to get the separate riser plate (I almost went with a dual battery grip but because the memory card slot is in the battery bay, it’s more of a hassle. The riser gives you access to both card and battery). There’s no in body image stabilization.Like the photo quality, the video quality is also nice. I’ve only tested it once or twice, but you can shoot in Canon Log 10 bit. This means more color information in the video than my 8bit 90d standard video, and I can do a lot more with editing/color grading. It’s also 4k downsampled from the 6k sensor, meaning it uses the full sensor and your image is actually a little better than standard 4k.I love shooting with it, and highly recommend. It’s incredibly lightweight as well so fitting it on a gimbal would be a piece of cake. I bought a Mieke EF to RF adapter ($55) so I can use my old lenses, and have zero issues with connection or autofocus. The photos I’ve added were shot with the R8 and an RF 85mm f2 lens.My only real “complaints”, which are minor inconveniences are the smaller batteries it takes (wish they were the Canon LP-N6 batteries), and that the memory card slot wasn’t where the battery goes. I’d much prefer to add a battery grip (taking care of the smaller battery problem, and the size factor all at once), and have a separate card slot. And I could’ve had the r6ii which is bigger and has the bigger batteries and separate card slot… but I opted for these minor inconveniences and saved a little money.Good little camera. 4.5/5 stars

ok so i bought this unit nov of 2023, its been around a year owning this and i’ve done extensive testing using many lenses, some i own and some i rent. here’s the jist of it all:this camera shoots ridiculously fast in ES, i personally never shoot EFCS since its slow and makes a sound.this brings me to first ‘issue’ or lack thereof: the electronic shutter does have rolling shutter but its very miniscule (readout speed is 14ms), notice subaru photo backgrounds might get slanted but not to a concerning level at all, completely usable. continuing on rolling shutter, u do see artifacts at times, however it not ur doing more so the les’s stabilization will jitter and thats what causes it, these photos are at times still usable however can be ruined in like 25% of the time.the readout speed has some other issues, this is obviously not stacked and as a result shooting at 40fps with moving subjects 5-10% of shots will be slightly out of focus, given this is also lens related more often than not. rolling shutter at times can also cause soft photos while still usable it could be better but there should be somewhere this thing lacks i guess.this camera can charge with UBC C however you will need a source with power delivery, it will only pull 5w while charging and with ‘mechanical shutter’ shooting it can pull up to 9w but never more. i’ve hear people saying it needs 40w PD but that’s just not true. btw it won’t charge while using it and u still need a battery in there even if its empty.now the best part of this camera AutoFocus: what can i say, find me something better and will admit being wrong in shame but hasn’t happened yet.it matters what kind of subject u tell the camera to detect, on its own and on auto it will do a fine job and will not get distracted(signature canon), however when u tell it to detect animals/cars…. sit back and be amazed. Once in a dark alley i had my camera in car detect and it would behave weirdly, it kept focusing on some random dark corner of the image and i was pissed. i missed the shot got back home editing and guess what, there was a parked car there which i couldn’t see since it was pretty much completely black.image quality is pro level, and iso performance will blow anything else out of the water, this is a sweat spot of pixel size(being 24mp) and full frame, u pull data out of places that had no data, truly baffling. level of detail is also godly, individual eyelashes are sharp and noticeable.body is the same as the rp, proven design quality build that you expect. not weather sealed but weather resistant, i used this camera in light rain no issues. i also got splashed once next to the pool with a weather sealed lens and all still working great(4 months later) but i do own a rain cover for it which i do still recommend.fun fact, instead of buying a grips for the r8 which are fairly expensive, try buying rp grips/ l bracket they fit just fine. bottom of this device is identical to the rp. camera body is also very small not pocketable by any extent but fairly compact. anything else you can just watch a review.also i heard it overheated, maybe in video but in my photography first experience it overheated once when it was left in the sun for 1 hour on a very hot day, never seen that error again, i was worried it would happen during the summer but it didn’t. i have heard that there is some sample variation on this topic though.i don’t think you can go wrong with this, even if ur a pro this would be a fantastic b cam or rather large EDC.
